Overall, Amite high is a small school with very little resources. In a small city, Amite High Alum is very limited and do not help very much. The school is wonderful sports wise, but could be better on the academic side. Some administrators care more about clothing and being right about everything rather than the mental and realistic emotions the students may be going through. Some teachers do not even care enough to truly teach to where everyone could understand. However, amite high is trying. They are doing better with helping students gain real certifications and understanding of certain careers and subrects. But it is mainly trade and medical related. Culturally, amite high is a great school! There is so much culture and family orientation in this small school and town. I would not trade my experience in the tangipahoa school system for anything!
In my 3 years at Amite High, I've had a very weird experience. Coming from a bigger school it was cool to have fewer people in classes and be more active with the teachers. Coming here I didn't know what to expect. All I knew was About amite is that Ms Perrie coached here. I knew her and her family before coming here because they go to my uncle's church. I've faced a lot of challenges. That includes not knowing anybody. So before I came here I was first introduced to football players over the summer then basketball so l eased my way into learning who everyone was. Over here they have a very different style of teaching than my teachers had in Hammond. A big challenge when I first came was the hurricane it put us out of school just as l was catching up on things over here. But l've had success so l was a state champion and a state runner .But all of that time went fast. Coach Powell always told us to value our time and that way I'm doing it. It's almost my last time in high school.
I have a lot to I owe to this school. It gave me an opportunity to figure out what I wanted and allowed me to be in a better place mentally. The teachers for me are the highlight, they invigorate my experience and I always feel comfortable to ask them for help. The student body is also a tight knit community I'd say, everyone feels like a part of something bigger. The only real critique I can think of at the moment are cases of last-minute updates from administration, which has bitten some teachers in the back and even me once, but there's been a mere few cases of this, more so of a nitpick than anything. All in all, I'm glad I had my time here.
