The Devil All The Time by Donald Ray Pollock - Edited or not (spoiler free)

Discussion

I've just started reading my very first book {{The Devil All The Time by Donald Ray Pollock}} and was wondering if it had been edited down since the first release, perhaps for things that were too graphic etc. I'm on about page 75 and it seems cut down to me, and there are editions that have over 300 pages and my copy is 261. Not sure if I should hunt down the original or if this is how it was first written. Maybe I was expecting more detail/gore as this book is always suggested and on lists of the most dark books of all time. Is anyone able to shed some light? I can't find anything or anyone mentioning any kind of editing. My copy has the Netflix circle.

Thank you (:

It’s fairly common for page counts to differ between editions but the content should be the same. The first edition was 261 pages fwiw.   https://www.goodreads.com/work/editions/15005760-the-devil-all-the-time

I read the first edition and it’s pretty grisly but not splatter levels of gore.

Thank you for the link, sounds like I don't have to worry. Anchor published the 320 page edition, so perhaps the extra 40 pages is just different size/font/formatting. It also had me wondering due to the price increase as well for the Anchor release, double the price for some reason here. I shall continue on reading. (:
