Furman University is a great school if you want to be prepared for the work force. The difficulty of classes along with trying to figure out what you want to do in life prepares you for any type of situation and gives you four years to work on how to better your time management skills.
I'm glad I chose Furman at the end of the day, but there are a few things I wouldn't return for. First, though, students at Furman are like no other - driven yet personable and genuinely there for each other. Furman is a place that creates friends for life. It's easy to get involved, and leadership positions are often challenging and meaningful. In my time, I studied abroad, edited the newspaper, and was a chair on the student activities board. These are the aspects that set Furman apart from its "more prestigious" counterparts. I will say, though, that sometimes the humanities at Furman are middling (I majored in English). If you come in a good writer, you may feel unchallenged by certain professors (obviously, some were amazing; others weren't). I also think professors don't invest well in the "average" student that isn't selling their soul to academics. Variety of courses offered, but only half were all that inspiring. Overall, though, I'd choose Furman again.
Furman University is abound with so many opportunities both academically and socially. The Furman Advantage focuses on giving students research, internship, and study abroad opportunities. Classes are small, professors are engaged, and it is a collaborative environment. The incredibly kind students and professors at Furman put it on an entirely different level than a lot of the top New England schools we visited. Southern manners are a real thing.
The campus itself is gorgeous. Without a doubt one of the prettiest in the country. It lends itself to a happy and healthy vibe. The city of Greenville is the most charming and aesthetic city with so much good food and pretty parks! The bike trail that connects downtown Greenville directly to campus is so fun to ride and walk on! Campus food is great!
Lastly, this school is part of the Duke Endowment which allows the school to invest in its students and the university. Furman still gives excellent merit and even a few full-rides.

I love the small community on campus. I feel like there are plenty of resources for me to reach out to when I'm in need of help. There are events fairly often on campus that provide entertainment and food. Academically, professors are very attentive and understanding. Classes are challenging but realistic. Dorm life is decent, and housing is currently being renovated for both underclassmen and upperclassmen. The lake is lovely as well. Food options are good; dining hall food gets old sometimes, but it's alright for the most part.
Going in August 2024. I loved the University when I visited. Beautiful campus. I loved the dorms.
Furman University routinely protects rapists and predators and fails to protect queer students and students of color.
Furman was my DREAM school. I love Greenville, I fell in love with the campus. The campus is beautiful and the dining hall food is amazing.
But….. I transferred after one semester.
First of all, The housing department needs serious work. I met very few people who actually liked their (random) roommates. The dorms are old and dirty, and for the cost, that shouldn’t be the case.
If you have a single Conservative bone in your body, you will feel incredibly ostracized.
The entire “CLP” thing is ridiculous. There are so many Furman-specific things that only Furman does that makes it so hard to not feel like you wasted your time.
I wish Furman didn’t try so hard to “check all the boxes” so to speak, especially with the “we accept everyone” because they don’t (if you’re not left leaning)

Furman is a pretty prestigious school, but all of the professors are very personable and care about your success.
Since becoming a student at Furman I have grown significantly as a person and as a learner. In addition to being a student I have worked as a researcher here and if I can recommend anything about Furman it is their phenomenal undergraduate research programs.
Furman was home away from home for me. Some of the best years of my life were spent here. I met intelligent, open minded, genuine people who became my lifelong friends. Furman is an amazing school that I would recommend to anyone.
So far my experience at Furman has been good overall but one of the biggest problems is the lack of good food options on campus causing students to spend unnecessary money on food because half of the week there isn't any food on campus past around 8:30 and with most students being busy during the day, they don't have the chance to eat. I would like better food options and later open food options for students.
I absolutely love Furman University and it is a fantastic school. The faculty is always there to help each and every student and make the students feel valued and not just a number like bigger schools. I love the addition of staying on campus all four years and not having to worry about finding outside housing and paying rent. I love how students can get involved in many different organizations and clubs on campus to strengthen their connection with other students, alumni, and Furman faculty members. I don't think I would want anything to change about this beautiful campus.
Overall I love Furman University. Its small size offers tailored and great one on one learning environments for students. On campus there are great dinning optioning including their dinning hall, Moes, Chick-fil-A, Sushi, Bread and Bowl, Starbucks, and a on campus restaurant. There are so many clubs and inner mural club sports teams that students are able and encouraged to join. Furman Does have greek life but no Greek houses and greek life events are limited, but overall not too bad of a greek life program. Furman also hosts many free events , I would say at least one a week, where students can relax and do crafts, eat free food, and connect with fellow Furman students. Because of that I have found Furman to be an easy place to make friends. Although Furman is very expensive (70,000 a year) they also provide good scholarships and finial aid for their students. Overall I have had a few issues with student housing as it can be very crowded and all students are required live on campus.
Furman overall is a great school. The class sizes are very small, which means lots of opportunities to interact with professors. There are also many fantastic resources to help you succeed.
I have really enjoyed my time at Furman. I have met many, many wonderful people and I'd say that is the best thing about it. Having a supportive community can lead to connections and other opportunities.
Furman taught me growth. I had never really been independent before moving there and I felt like it not only required me to be independent but the professors equipped me for that independence. Furman laid a foundation for me on how to study, how to find your voice, and how to uplift others.
Furman was a great fit for me. It's a small school which allows you to get to know your professors. The professors and school staff really care about you and helping you succeed. Everyone went out of their way to make you feel wanted and involved in the school/student body.
It's a tough school but I love a challenge. It's a stunning campus and was an amazing environment for me.
I like Furman. Its campus is beautiful, education is good, and there is a lot of personal attention. for me, as an international student, everything is cool
I love the community aspect. You always see someone you know everywhere on campus and you aren’t just a number here!
