Rotate and crop clip straight?

PostFri Sep 27, 2019 8:24 pm

Hi folks,

Could someone please advise me on the correct workflow for the following?

Imagine this:

I have a clip of a seascape with horizon. But it's not quite straight.
Ok, with transform it's easy enough to straighten it up.

But, now i want to crop it so that this clip is only visible in the bottom half of my video.
But if i crop it, it crops at the angle equivalent to the rotation i just performed.
So if i rotated my clip by 30 degrees, then the horizontal lines of the crop are also 30 degrees.
But i don't want this!! I want to have a straight crop, but with the clip rotated "inside" it.
(by the way, i understand that rotating the clip will necessitate a slight zooming of the clip in order to achieve a straight crop, but i guess the answer to my problem will incorporate this!)

Hmmmm, clear as mud i'm sure .......... any ideas?!

You can try doing it from the Fusion tab. Try using a Transform node and a mask.

There are many possibilities, but easiest, rotate your clip, right click on it, select new compound clip, crop it.
