Newark Reviews
Rating 3.38 out of 5 405 reviews
Growing up Black in Newark was difficult yet profoundly formative. The city's lengthy history of racial injustice and urban decay casts a long shadow, from decaying housing developments to underfunded schools. However, Newark's rich African American cultural past inspired great pride. Despite battling challenges like as crime and poverty, the resilient community maintained a strong spirit of resilience. The neighborhood churches were beacons of optimism. Local leaders and activists pushed tirelessly for equality and change. Despite its challenges, Newark created my identity via its soulful arts, food, and relentless commitment to elevate the Black experience despite all obstacles.
Newark has a lot of diversity and places to visit based on different cultures. If you want to eat Mexican, Ecuadorian, and Portuguese food you would go to ferry street. Or if you want Italian food we also have that. I feel like a lot of places here in Newark accommodate peoples various needs. I also want to point out that transportation in newark is fairly easy and simple. If you want to explore newark theres busses and the light rail very near by like 3 blocks from your house type near. Or if you want to go to New York, Secaucus, or Newport you could take the path or the express at Penn station.
I was born and raised in Newark, NJ and have a complicated relationship with my city. I have had many opportunities offered to me that have boosted me in a successful path in my educational and career path and for that I am forever grateful to my community! I would say that there should definitely be more state funded programs to keep the youth out of the streets and to help them succeed in life and move into bigger things that the world has to offer!
