It’s Murphy at his best.

Feud: Bette & Joan is not so camp that you can see the tents. This is Murphy paying tribute to Davis...

The series is tremendously consistent in all its episodes, perhaps weakening somewhat in its little inspired closure. [Full Review in Spanish]

Both Lange and Sarandon are terrific in their portrayals, never turning Crawford and Davis into caricatures or impersonations.

This is a show that will utilize its setting to tell a poignant and relevant story about women assuming agency.

Feud: Bette and Joan was a beautiful lie. A lie told in service to the art, a lie told to secure the legends for another generation, a lie told to placate the audience, and ultimately, a lie told by the auteur to the auteur.

In an age when most feuds are fought in 140 characters, there's something irresistible about seeing two larger-than-life characters duking it out the old-fashioned way, face-to-face.

The revelation is Jessica Lange as Crawford, who bestrides every scene with a once-proud beauty, Joan's history of abuse, of fierce hard work from childhood on, shining from those excavated cheekbones throughout.

Feud is Murphy's deepest drama to date because of what he says in it: real life is a specious concept, but you can fuck up your real life if you don't believe in it.

There's plenty of compelling drama here -- and even some comedy -- for everyone, and the overall themes of ageism and sexism that transcend time and social class are really what's most memorable about the series.

In an industry dominated by male pigs, the revelation at the center of the show was how competition, a scarcity of roles, self-consciousness, beauty standards, and perceptions of talent helped these women terrorize each other.

This is a slice of classic Hollywood history with a modern resonance.

Sensibly, [Feud] came to TV, because it's the only medium for analysing this vitriolic relationship in the depth it deserves.

Feud: Bette and Joan is the perfect outlet for Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kathy Bates, and other older actors to prove they have a lot of talent and don't need to be under 30 to take on juicy leading roles.

[Ryan] Murphy is smart enough to not push this too far.

Sparks flew. Delicious one-liners were traded. Ageism, sexism and misogyny were explored. This was Feud for thought.

This show has a great deal to say about sexism, misogyny and ageism, which all needs saying, desperately, but rather than threading it through the drama, or characterisations, it just kept hitting you over the head in the form of obvious statements.

Lange and Sarandon do well, giving each a humanity that you can't help doubting was there.

Feud looks SPECTACULAR, with spot-on costuming and fanatically detailed recreations of early 1960s Los Angeles. This is easily the best-looking period drama since Mad Men.

If you're coming to Feud for a rich, ravishing, beautifully realized portrait of Old Hollywood glamour, you will not be let down-but richer still are the ugly truths beneath the surface.
