This is a pretty lo-fi live recording from April 1972 which must be aimed at hardcore Badfinger fans. It does give a good impression that Badfinger were a really tight live-band. Musically Pete Ham stands out as an excellent guitarist and also by far the best singer. Joey Molland was never a very good singer and some of his performances here are outright terrible. Also Tom Evans’ vocals are pretty uneven; he tends to scream too much, which is a shame since he really was a good singer.
The best tracks overall are Pete Ham’s who was a great songwriter and musician and some of his strongest and well-known songs are included in the set. “No Matter What” and “Day After Day” are obviously featured, but songs like “Take it All” and “We’re for the Dark” are also great. Pete also wrote the strongest rockers on the set “Midnight Sun” and “I Can’t Take it”.
Some songs are very long/extended which was cool at the time, but listening to “Feeling Alright”, “Suitcase” and “Only You Known and I Know” for around ten minutes can be pretty tiresome.
It’s an interesting release, but there are better live CDs out there; e.g. Badfinger on the BBC.
