Biography

  • Jess Glynne (born October 20, 1989) is an English R&B and hip-hop singer and songwriter, best known for her feature on Clean Bandit’s 2014 single “Rather Be”, from Muswell Hill, London, UK.

Jess Glynne’s rise to musical esteem has happened over a remarkably short time. Born and raised in North London’s Muswell Hill, Glynne was inspired to become a talented and well-known singer after her school’s lack of encouragement in her ability and refusal to let her contribute to school performances. Once the singer-songwriter had finished school she went travelling with a friend through which she had a multitude of different experiences that has influenced her music.

Glynne’s recording debut came as a guest vocalist spot on the classical/house crossover act Clean Bandit and their single “Rather Be” in January 2014. The single went to No. 1 in the UK Top 40 chart, has since been certified as double platinum in the UK, triple platinum in Australia and introduced the public to Glynne’s soulful voice. It wasn’t long however before the songstress was making more waves to the top of the charts, this time with Route 94’s piano-house single “My Love”. The song has been certified platinum and paved the way for the Londoner’s solo efforts.

After appearances at Glastonbury and Lovebox festivals Glynne released her debut solo single “Right Here” on July 6, 2014. The single reached No. 6 in the UK chart and has been certified silver. The singer’s follow-up “Real Love” featuring Clean Bandit is the first from her debut “New Eyes” and reached No. 2 in the UK singles chart.

Live reviews

  • Jess Glynne

Known most for her collaboration with Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne is one talented Brit. Her vocals are extremely impressive and very unique. When you hear her voice you have no question as to who it is. Her live shows are extremely energetic, with pretty much everyone leaving the show talking about how great it was.

The girl can pack a house when she comes to town for a live show. As the crowd waits in anticipation for the show to start, you take notice of how simple the stage is set up. There is a stand for a DJ and two microphones standing slightly behind and to the side of the main microphone that is center stage. The two backup singers and DJs enter the stage first, with the music starting to play. Then you hear that voice, the perfectly raspy alto voice as Jess takes the stage. As soon as her vocals start the crowd cheers for her arrival. It’s really easy to tell that she is a genuinely sweet person, thanking the audience for their love and support immediately after the first song. She then continues to perform her others songs, closing out with her single “Right Here.” A tremendous performance by a girl who will be forever talked about.

  • Jess Glynne, the newest female vocalist to break through in the UK is taking the charts by storm following her killer collaborations with electro outfit Clean Bandit and her own smash hit 'Hold My Hand'. The Londoner is successfully merging the genres of pop, house and R & B whilst giving her music an overall nostalgic 90's feel.

It is going over particularly well with fans who are rushing to see the young singer perform live, as her current tours have all been supporting slots so far. She has amazed the gathered crowds with her fast growing discography and energetic performance style. Test driving some new material that is likely to feature on the debut, 'Ain't Got Far to Go' is danceable and powerful all at once and really gets the masses moving along under Jess's charismatic command. It is the likes of 'Right Here' and 'My Love' that shows the real potential of this starlet when you consider all five singles she has either released or featured on have gone top 10, with three hitting the top spot. The huge singalong to 'Hold My Hand' feels like the beginning of an exciting journey for Jess Glynne and her fanbase.

  • Although Jess Glynne is most famous for her huge collaborative hit, party pumper and house music hit ‘Rather Be’, she is far from merely being a one hit wonder. The talented Brit is a strong vocalist and has a whole array of great dance tunes on her set list that leave the audience wanting for nothing! Perhaps what is most riveting about Jess Glynne is her incredibly unique voice, a voice that you could never confuse for anyone else. Accompanied only by her DJ and two backing singers, Glynne does not need a whole band or group of backing dancers to command the stage: her voice does it all. Even with the flashing, pulsating lights that illuminate the stage and eager crowd, all eyes stay trained on Glynne at all times. Although ‘Rather Be’ produced the greatest crowd reaction of the night, there was also much excitement and sing along for her hit single ‘Right Here’ as well as her hit tune ‘Real Love’ which also features former collaborator Clean Bandit.

  • Wow! What an awesome gig! I've followed Jess for ages and always missed seeing her live, missing her when she was breaking through and playing a small gig in Oxford, and had to sell tickets to her last gig as I couldn't get there .... well she was worth the wait!!

Flawless vocals, outstanding band/singers/dancers loved every minute and didn't want it to end. The new and old delivered with class - walk through to raised piano in the crowd got our attention too! Outstanding performance!

Thank you Jess - don't go changing - we love you!

Seeing NOT3S was also a bonus for my kids too! Missed the 1st support as we were stuck in traffic - will search Youtube to see what we missed.

Only downside were the women behind us who wouldn't shut up and kept stamping their feet!! Why go to a concert & talk throughout? Oh well - luckily we zoned them and concentrated on the flawless Jess ;-D

  • An amazing concert - what a professional she is. I was never a diehard fan of Jess Glynne but this may have just turned me into one. Jess really knows how to connect with the crowd (said she really loves coming to Northern Ireland) but she actually stopped one song near the end because she didn't think it sounded good enough. "I want to give you the best I can" she told the crowd after complaining that the sound wasn't to her liking. We had noticed her fiddling with her earpiece earlier in the night and that the music often drowned out her voice, but after her temporary stoppage, her amazing voice belted out over Belfast and the crowd were ecstatic. What a perfectionist and well worth standing in the initial rain. Definitely want to see this lady again.

  • Jess Glynne - an artist worth watching.

5 full stars to this brilliant woman. She's got the most gorgeous, powerful and addicting voice and knows how to put on an amazing show.

She interacted with the audience countless times during her 1.5 hour show. Jess is so enjoyable to watch, the main reason for this being that from her interactions and body language, you could tell how in love she is with what she does. She loves performing and this is extremely evident. Every note she sings comes straight from her heart.

I could honestly go on about her forever. If you ever have the opportunity to go to one of her shows, don't think twice, just go. Jess, together with her band, are so worth it.

  • The show was cancelled the afternoon of the show. I never heard a word on Friday from either Ticketfly or LincolnTheater about the show Cancellation. I heard about cancellation through friends who did hear from both Ticketfly and the Lincoln Theater. Glynne tweeted that the show was “postponed” and said “I promise I’ll be back full of love.” But nobody has heard anything about our tickets being refunded; or about a future DC performance. Interestingly, no other subsequent shows — including one the next day in Philly — have been cancelled. Overall, it has been a big disappointment that has thus far left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Jess was amazing the stage creatives were exceptional and the event as a whole was well organised however the sound for the support acts was unbearably loud and made the experience of the support acts disappointing even though they were really good. The venue was small which I liked because it made the concert more intimate and felt like there was more emotion in the performance because it was more enclosed. Overall a really good experience and Jess is the best

  • Everything about her concert was ON POINT!!! She is definitely energetic, lively, funny, and another great thing about last night is that she encouraged the crowd to sing as loud as we could to her songs! Jess had a videographer and said that if it was ok with us her videographer was going to record us to potentially be in Jess' next video! I'm soooooo super happy that she came out to the Independent last night and I already want her to come back!
