An Open and Affirming Community

An Open and Affirming Community

Our defining vision describes this faith community well:

An open and affirming community
Seeking the way of Christ together with
Minds that search
Hearts that share
Lives that serve

Whether through worship, music, Christian education for all ages, our programs for children and youth, or outreach to the neighborhood, city, and the world, the people of St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church invite you to join us.

We believe that our church family is unique in its dedication to learning, sharing, and service. We welcome your distinctive energies and skills and encourage you to apply them in our common journey of Christian discipleship.

Ours is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). You can learn more about our denomination at www.pcusa.org.

FAITH IN ACTION

At St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, we believe that our faith calls us to bear witness to God’s love in the world. We are proud to be member a member congregation of the More Light Presbyterian and Earth Care organizations.

EARTH CARE CONGREGATION

“God called it good.” In Genesis, we read that God has a plan for all of creation, and that humanity is to tend to Creation as an act of faith. The goal of the Earth Care Congregation program is to inspire churches to care for God’s earth in a holistic way, through integrating earth care into all of church life. To become an Earth Care Congregation Saint Barnabas has affirmed the Earth Care pledge to integrate environmental practices and thinking into all facets of congregational life including worship, education, facilities and outreach. MORE LIGHT PRESBYTERIANS

Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.” As a member of MLP, the session (governing body) of Saint Barnabas has endorsed this mission statement, and warmly invites all of God’s children into a life of faith. Gender identity or sexual orientation serve as no barrier to church membership, celebration of sacraments, celebration of marriage, and ordination to the offices of deacon, elder, or pastor. This is a belief ratified by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA)- our denomination’s highest governing body—and embodied by our staff and congregation. At St. Barnabas, you are loved.
