About the game
The wins have not been plentiful in the United Football League, but the Roughnecks could claim in-state bragging rights by beating the Brahmas. Houston defeated Arlington 17-9 on April 21 at home. The Roughnecks are also running out of time to chase a playoff spot, as a loss would put them at last three games behind Michigan (4-2), second in the USFL Conference, with three to play.
The game also marks the return of former Oilers, Texans and Roughnecks coach Wade Phillips, who has helped San Antonio already surpass its XFL win total from 2023. The Brahmas fell a game behind St. Louis (5-1) for the XFL Conference lead with last week's 18-12 loss against D.C. (3-3) but are still a game ahead of the Defenders for the second playoff spot.
Player to watch
Justin Hall leads Houston receivers with 33 catches for 283 yards and a touchdown, and could play a more significant role returning punts and kickoffs going forward. He was the Roughnecks' leading receiver for the second consecutive week, catching six passes for 59 yards against St. Louis after 11 catches for 93 yards against Birmingham.
