I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.
Try following and check after each step
1. Reset Calculator app
Right click on Windows Start > Apps & features > Scroll down and click Calculator > Click Advanced options > Click Reset > Restart your computer
2. Uninstall and Reinstall Calculator
A. Uninstall - Windows Key+X > Click Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the below and paste into Powershell and Enter
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsCalculator | Remove-AppxPackage
B. Reinstall
Windows Key+X > Click Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the below command and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsCalculator | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
(If there is a problem in reinstall, you can always reinstall from MS Store)
Do let me know if you have any more question or require further help.

Try re-registering Calculator app. Perform these steps:
1. Search for Windows PowerShell using Cortana or Windows Search.
2. From results, right click on Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
3. Then type following command and press Enter key:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.WindowsCalculator | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}
Let the command complete.
4. Close Windows PowerShell and check Calculator app, it should work fine now.

I’m afraid the ’Reset’ operation doesn’t do the trick. The calc app still behaves badly.

The recommended installation was successful, but the calc.exe app acts up the same way: it shuts down immediately.

Hi Vijay_Verma,
Unfortunately, the steps you proposed have proved to be unsuccessful.
Although the calc app cannot be uninstalled using the Apps & features because the Uninstall button is grayed (which is quite strange), the command you suggested in step 2A did the trick.
Then I tried to reinstall the app from the MS Store and to my surprise, I was informed: “Couldn’t install. We’ll retry shortly”. After this, I reinstalled the app using step B you suggested, but to no avail. The calc app is still useless.
Thank you for your help.

Following the steps proposed by you, the calc app can be run again. However, some other MS apps have ceased to function including mail, office etc.
Do you have any idea how to get them back?

For Office - Try repairing your Office installation. First try Quick Repair (takes 5 - 10 mins) , if that doesn't help then try Online Repair (Takes more than 30 mins but less than 1 hour in general)
