The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami is celebrated for its prime beach location and family-friendly amenities, including praised pools and beach access. However, some guests have called out the hotel for not providing value for money, highlighting unexpected fees and costly services. While the cleanliness of the hotel generally receives positive remarks, there are occasional mentions of housekeeping inconsistencies. Opinions on the rooms and atmosphere are divided; comfort and views are offset by dated decor and service experiences that vary from excellent to lacking.

We chose the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne for our short getaway. Key Biscayne is close to Miami, but is a world away in atmosphere. It is a primarily residental community, so pleasantly quiet. The Ritz re-opened only a few days before our arrival but we were contacted a week before our visit with info about all the cleaning and health precautions we could expect upon arrival. Masks were required while walking around the property ( and also recommended by the city of Key Biscayne, even on the beach, unless in the water or exercising).
Starting with our welcome by name when we drove up to the front door, the service was excellent. The pool staff were attentive and conscientious, bringing ice water around to the guests often, without request. There are 3 sit down restaurants but they were not all open for dinner throughout our stay. Restaurant staff were also friendly and attentive and kid friendly. There are 2 pools, both well maintained . The grounds and landscaping are beautiful. The only complaint we had, and the reason I gave a 4 not 5, was the amount of seaweed at the beach. It did make entry into the ocean difficult. It seemed that it had accumulated for quite a while (probably during the hotel closure) so was quite deep. To be fair, they were working on it by the time we left, with a tractor mulching it into the sand.
We would defiinitely return for a future family trip.

Beautiful hotel and grounds. Huge family pool. Large adults only pool & hot tub. Gorgeous long white sand beach. Friendly and attentive staff. Key Biscayne location keeps you out of the Miami Spring Break South Beach mayhem.

Great breakfast buffet and dinner at Lightkeepers with outdoor seating on a first come first served basis. Wonderful frozen mango mojitos, chicken and cheese quesadillas and chips and guacamole at Cantina Beach. 10 outdoor tennis courts. Book lessons & courts ahead of time as they fill up fast.

Negatives include no enforcement of masks or social distancing inside the hotel. Only 4 paddle boards, 3 kayaks and 9 life jackets which isn’t enough for a large hotel that was quite full. Each room comes with only 2 beach chairs & 1 umbrella and the use of 1 paddle board or 1 kayak per day so if you have kids staying with you in your room you have to pay extra for more chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards etc. at the beach.

Overall it was a great hotel for a family vacation.

Our normal beach vacation in the late winter or early spring has been to the Ritz Carlton in Cancun. Being fully vaccinated, as a matter of principle, we did not want the hassle of the COVID test required to return to the USA. Thus, we chose to have a beach vacation in the USA. We had heard guests in Cancun speak positively of the Key Biscayne property.

The property is much larger than the Cancun hotel; maybe 3 or 4 times larger. It is well maintained and very clean. There is an adult only pool on the north end of the property, which is a plus. The resort is "family friendly" with both a family pool and a "spray area" for children: quite a decent size.

If you are a couple wishing for a relaxing stay; avoid rooms in the 30's ocean side. Those rooms are above the family pool and the major outside dining area of Lightkeepers. It is very noisy. A better choice would be rooms on the north end of the hotel. Why we were placed on the south end is a mystery. We are long time Ritz Carlton guests of a "certain age".

About check-in: we were given incorrect information that housekeeping would be "every other day". No, it was every day. Lack of communication between areas of the hotel is an issue.

Sadly, there are no beach cabanas as in Cancun. All cabanas are poolside. Beach "daybeds", a few, are available on the beach, but a better option are the chairs and umbrellas. One can move the chairs as the sun moves.

The food quality is quite good, but the ambiance suffers. Lightkeepers is the main restaurant. It is quite large and we had server issues. Food was great. Wines are over priced per bottle, what one expects. Forget about having a couples' quiet dinner as the restaurant is full of families with bored children.

First of all the hotel itself is lovely and clean, but considering the Ritz is a luxury hotel, my expectations at my very first Ritz were higher than others hotels (and I'm comparing to my recent experiences at a Secrets resorts and JW Marriotts), I felt that the service was average. Hotel check in at 9:30pm took about 10 minutes and when another guest came to discuss his bill, he had to wait until I was done (typically another employee would have assisted the other hotel guest). When we were hanging out at the Dune beach bar area, I had to find a waiter to take our order since no one came around after waiting for about 15 minutes. There were other examples along the same lines, and this may all seem nit picky but considering that Ritz Carlton prides itself on service, I found the staff to be average. Some were friendly but I didn't get that general vibe from most. Again, my expectations may have been skewed by the experiences I encountered at other hotels which are less expensive.

The fitness room is well equipped and this was very much appreciated, however the virtual studio did not seem to be functioning (and I didn't bother with making a phone call). Happy hour prices at the Dune beach bar are still very expensive but it is the Ritz.

The property is located at a pretty beach and Key Biscayne is worth checking out (unfortunately, seaweed continues to be a problem) and you can walk to the lighthouse (in the direction away from the city) which is about 30-40 minutes away. Keep in mind, when you enter into the State Park, there is a pole with buckets (near the brush area), so during your walk you can collect any garbage like plastics and to clean the beach (not sure how many RC guests would volunteer and participate...).

Overall, the hotel is really nice and service is hit or miss. I was just expecting more considering the prices is sometimes double the JW. I agree with the other reviewer who said that service is much better at all inclusives in the Caribbean and you would be paying much less.

It pains me to write this review. If you search, you will see I have left several amazing reviews for what used to be my favorite hotel in Miami and beyond.

I waited over a month before I wrote this review to make sure my review did not reflect a knee/jerk reaction and it did not.

After an amazing 3 nights at the Ritz in Key Biscayne, in which we barely left the property, we had not had any service to our room. We called once or 2x to refresh towels and have more shampoo delivered. My companion or I would meet housekeeping at the door, both masked and do an exchange.

Unfortunately on our fourth and final night, things for me are forever ruined to feel comfortable at this resort which has been my go to since a family member has been living in the area for 4.5 years.

I called at 5:30 for new towels. At 6:10 when we were leaving the room, I called and cancelled the request. We left the room with the PRIVATE sign on the door. When we returned to our room a few hours later, I was horrified that a full turn down service had been performed. What normally would have been a great service, ruined many of my items in these times and having not prepared for the service.

Upon checkin, we labored with sanitizing wipes and spay Lysol to make sure that everything was sanitized to our comfort level. When the trespassing occurred, I had not been able to prepare for such service. Housekeeping did what might have been considered great in more normal circumstances. However, assuming no one would be entering my room several items were moved to look more organized and had to be replaced or dry cleaned. I had to dispose of custom earplugs that were left next to the bed, several chargers that were reorganized, pajamas and clothes that were left out had to be cleaned, my costly hair tools had to be disposed of, and many more items that are not as extreme (reading material, etc.). I had my computer out, in a locked room. I normally carry it with me as I had work sensitive information that could have been breached.

The best the front desk could do was give me a bag of sanitizing wipes.

Clearly, the hotel understood the severity of this action as the next morning the front desk manager, who had an abominable attitude, had already spoken to the GM and offered us 120,000 Marriott Points and a partial and snide apology.

As a Platinum member and my companion, a Titanium level Marriott member, this was an insult.

We are in process of working with legal counsel to determine how we should proceed with this excessive violation that still creates anxiety for me and I still have not been able to replace all of my 'unwipable' items that had to go in the garbage.

I'm pained that our trip in January 2021 will likely been my last trip to RC Key Biscayne as I've been coming for about 15 years with friends and family and have always had a nice time with the occasional 'normal' issue that occurs at hotels.
Keep in mind that the PRIVATE sign means nothing at this resort and plan to have your room entered at any time.

This would have been a bad experience during normal times, but during covid, the idea of not knowing how long and how recently someone had been in our room was incredibly scary as we could not sleep with our masks on.

Stayed at the oceanfront suite, but so many things were wrong:
1. Bed bugs: with each night more bites showed up.
2. Beach attendants: Julian, Alvaro, Icard, Miguel were on their phones majority of the time (either answering personal calls or texting) not paying attention to guests requesting beach chairs and umbrella. In fact, when I came to the beach attendants’ hut to ask for the beach umbrella and chairs, they ignored me and then just walked away.
3. Customer service: huge issue. Restaurant servants and front desk attendant Isabel gave me attitude. Didn’t make me feel welcomed.
4. Cleanliness: housekeeping didn’t clean high touch surface areas. Stained curtains (dried nasal mucus), floors, carpet and walls (see pictures). General property cleanliness was bad. Wine glasses and plastic cups throughout the property didn’t get picked up during the day. Trash cans overfilled and didn’t get picked up for several days in the row, when it was finally showed up to pick it up they were sorting it right on the spot (see pictures).
5. Noise: the property often had events ending late at night, the rooms are not equipped with soundproof windows/slide doors thus causing a great deal of noise disturbance.
6. Mold: shower had mold
7. Food: If you don’t tip enough when ordering the portions get ridiculously small. Staff are lively and friendly only when you tip generously otherwise don’t expect anything done decently or within reasonable timeframe.
8. Beach entrance: wooden beach walkway mat was missing slats and had exposed hardware. Witnessed several people trip and fall.
9. Elevators: out of 5 elevators 3 were out of service on a Saturday (busiest day at the hotel) and stayed out of service for several days.
10. Furniture: old/worn out. Suite balcony door wouldn’t launch completely (see picture). Pool bathroom had broken doors that wouldn’t shut and hung sideways (see pictures).
11. In room service: for toiletries had only 2 conditioners, no shampoo, shower gel or slippers. When requested it took 2 hours to receive.
This was my last time staying at Ritz. I’ve stayed at other locations of Ritz but the chain as a whole has alike issues.

Just returned from a four night stay. I stay at this property every year in May. We had to skip last year so we were very excited to go this year. Knowing how hard the hospitality industry was hit with Covid we were prepared that things might not be quite the same. Even with our lower expectations we were extremely disappointed. The service was not what it should be for a Ritz. They did not have enough servers at the pool or in any of the restaurants or front desk. Typical typical wait for a drink by the pool was 30 minutes. Many of the staff were rude. The pool was freezing, the heat was not turned on and the hot tub was also cold. The air-conditioning in our room was broken and we had to call three times before someone came up to take a look at it. I called for a blanket one night and I waited an hour and a half. I understand the staff were probably overworked but many were rude and short with us. If they don’t have enough staff they should not book the hotel to that capacity.

The beach was not usable and swimming in the ocean was not an option. I know it’s not the hotels fault but it was overrun with smelly seaweed. Do not come to this hotel if you are looking for a beach experience. The hotel cannot control nature but the day I was flying down the hotel posted a picture on their Instagram page with a pristine beach. They should not mislead their guests like that.

Finally before check out I looked at my bill and discovered I was overcharged. I spoke to the front desk and asked them to email me a final copy when they took care of the error. Just looked at my email not only did they not correct the error they added a charge for breakfast this morning when breakfast was included with my package.

This is a beautiful property right on the ocean and it used to be a wonderful place to visit. I hope when the pandemic is officially over and things return to normal the hotel will return to the high level of service and luxury they used to offer their guests. For now I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at nearly $1,000 x night and had a very bad experience with the hotel service. The hotel was at fulll capacity and understaffed. Our phone calls to front desk always went unanswered and we had to go downstairs and stand in line every day in order to ask to have our room serviced. Apparently it was a COVID protocol to service rooms every other day. Although I did not see any other COVID protocol in place. I was traveling with my husband and 2 young children and having to make beds, clean the bathroom and take out the trash was not the vacation I was hoping for.
There was also massive construction work being done at the beach. Had we been told, we would not have stayed there. Imagine having a 4 and a 6 year old playing in the sand trying to stay out of the way of a construction truck driving by every 5 minutes. Accident waiting to happen. We spent most of our days in the kid´s fountains, which they loved. But there is so much time an adult can stay there. The pool could not fit one more person in it so we did not go in there either. The food service at the beach was painfully slow.
Our room was small and had no view. So for $1,000 a night I am still wondering what we paid for? Service was terrible, we had no access to the beach or pool and the room was not serviced.
The only reason why I would ever consider recommending this hotel is because it is the better option in KB, but I would not pay more than $300 per night.

The devil of great hotel hospitality is in the details. In the case of this property they were not attended to. The staff was mostly the greatest, being welcoming and friendly - while professional. The gardens are exquisite, the pool areas are great for families, and the decor is of the grandest - except for the bedrooms. The two of us staying in a non ocean view room for two nights found the room to be very basic. Certainly the bed was large and comfortable, but the couch was not so and was placed so as not to provide any real view of the television set. The small round table had only one upright chair, so one of us would have to sit on the adjacent couch when eating room service. The shower was the smallest and the water pressure the weakest not offering a comfortable showering experience. The door to the separate lavatory room was so large, and so designed, that one had to stand behind the lavatory basin to be able to open or close the door. There is no in room coffee machine and a pot of coffee from room service is $16+ which is great revenue enhancement but poor service. The worst was housekeeping service. Having left the room about 10:15 we returned at about 3:00 pm. to find the bed not made and the room dirty. Calling housekeeping elicited the brusque response that they had until 4:00 p.m. to service the room. The rudeness of the response was astounding.

P.S. It is now 4:00 p.m. and still no housekeeping.

Booked weeks in advance an oceanfront room with a balcony, one night stay. Arrived and had to wait in long line, as hotel was extremely packed. This property does NOT feel like a Ritz (or look like one), more like a regular busy Marriott resort hotel.

At check-in, told the oceanfront room with balcony that was reserved and confirmed, no longer available, despite having the reservation. I'm a Lifetime Titanium member, carrying Ritz-Carlton and Marriott credit cards for years. Have stayed almost 2,000 nights for 10 years. Didn't seem to matter to this hotel staff. After arguing with the staff about wanting my reservation honored, clerk went in the back and came back 2 minutes later and said they "found a room" but low floor, not the preferences requested. Not sure why the room "wasn't available" to a Lifetime Titanium Bonvoy initially. Had to wait again for the room to be ready, not ready at check-in time. Got room key, room was terribly small, and noisy. Loud drunken neighbor after midnight, had to call security, who did come up and give noise complaint notice and that issue resolved. This hotel offers no greeting to Bonvoy members, has ZERO turndown service that you would expect at a Ritz, and there is nowhere to sit in the pool and beach area. Hotel staff not accommodating either, didn't honor the "guaranteed" late check out request for Titanium members.

Overall, hotel quality subpar for Ritz, service even worse. NOT what one would expect at a Ritz. Absolutely WOULD NOT stay again and would not recommend. Look elsewhere. Property doesn't value their loyal customers in the least bit. $1,400 per night stay for garbage service and mediocre room and experience.
