In the post war Italian film industry where every film seemed to have a half dozen screenplay contributors the creative community was small enough to produce the inevitable infighting with plenty of clashing egos, grudges, greed and hurt feelings. Differences in philosophy could lead to splits in the ranks (for example, there were once Luchino Visconti camps and Federico Fellini camps). Such squabbling could lead to someone like neo-realist pioneer Giuseppe DeSantis to make bitter hyperbolic declarations that the often brilliant Aldo Fabrizi “doesn’t deserve to be called and actor”. The rotund and bug eyed Fabrizi may have been a master of the populist comedy but he wasn’t all pratfalls and double takes, he also portrayed characters like the unforgettable…
Aldo Fabrizi is memorable as Nino Martoni, an actor and director of a traveling vaudeville troupe who is always one step ahead of the law. He has his hands full trying to keep his star happy, trying to find new talent, trying to find places to sleep and eat before the troupe can get on the next train to the next stop before trouble finds them.
Into his life comes a young and lovely Gina Lollobrigida who is on the run, too. She latches on to the troupe to escape the law and Martoni takes her in because she's one of them even if she has no apparent talent. Soon, they find her one.

The theater plot wasn't terribly exciting, but this was a very Aldo Fabrizi experience with a lot of colorful characters on support, and that with automatically made it a humorous wild party.
Fabrizi gigantesco in sto film❤
