Logos, Lockups, and University Seal
Consistent use of the Universityʼs visual identity adds to the value of each unit while reinforcing the institution’s collective value. Here is a comprehensive overview of our core identity elements: logos, lockups, and university seal.
NYU’s all-university (all-u) logos are the University’s broadest forms of representation. They are not affiliated with any specific institutional unit.

NYU’s degree-granting campuses have unique aspects, but they are ultimately connected to create one NYU. Their lockups reflect this unity.
Refer to the NYU Abu Dhabi Brand Guidelines when using these lockups and other branding elements. For questions concerning the appropriate usage of the NYU Abu Dhabi logo, please contact NYU Abu Dhabi Public Affairs and Communications.

School Lockups
Each school has three official lockup variations (as explained here) that can be used in place of the all-university logos. You can download the school’s lockups from the Google Drive folder (NYU NetID log-in required). Refer to the accompanying school-specific branding list for more information on each schoolʼs branding.
If you can’t find the lockup you need, please contact Marketing Communications (MarComm) through the MarComm Service Request Form.

School-Specific Branding Sites
Short School Lockups
Short school lockups use the school’s shorthand name most commonly used by students, faculty, and staff. This version creates a strong graphical mark, is more flexible, and is easily recognized at a distance or in small sizes.
Long School Lockups
The long version, or formal lockup, includes the school’s full name and is best used in instances when additional descriptive information will add value to the communication.
Stacked School Lockups
The stacked version of the short school lockup can be used to accommodate more compact locations such as social media profile images.
Each NYU global academic center and program offers a distinct experience, but wherever you are within the global network, you’re always at NYU. Their lockups illustrate this fundamental connection.
Download global academic center and program lockups via Google Drive (NYU NetID log-in required). If you can’t find the lockup you need, please contact Marketing Communications through the MarComm Service Request Form.

Using one of the all-university logos is the best way to communicate your official connection to the University. However, we created official lockups for all NYU offices and departments for certain instances when it is important to specify the individual entity behind the communications.
All NYU offices and departments have a lockup to help them maintain a strong connection with the NYU brand. Download your officeʼs or department’s lockup from the Google Drive folder (NYU NetID log-in required). If you can’t find the lockup you need, or if you need a lockup created for a newly formed unit, please contact Marketing Communications through the MarComm Service Request Form.

What Our Seal Represents
Our university seal is not our logo but a more formal representation of the NYU identity. It is used in very select instances.
The university seal, created circa the late 19th century, is composed of five emblems that embrace NYU’s goals and traditions: the NYU name, the institution’s founding year in Roman numerals, the university motto, four runners, and the Statue of Liberty’s upheld torch. The placement of the motto—perstare et praestare, to persevere and to excel—under the depiction of classic runners represents the continued pursuit of academic excellence, and Lady Liberty’s torch signifies NYU’s commitment of service to New York City.
When to Use
The university seal should be used only
- on official documents such as diplomas and corporate contracts or
- through licensing agreements maintained at the NYU Bookstore.
All additional usages of the university seal should be reviewed by NYU Marketing Communications.
Access and Review Requests
Please contact Marketing Communications through the MarComm Service Request Form for access to the university seal and to request a review.
