One of the best of the jubilee gospel quartets that emerged in the 1920s with the advent of recording,
the Fairfield Four enjoyed their greatest success in the 1940s. This two-disc, 47-track set includes several of the group's singles released between 1946 and 1954, and serves as a good introduction to this fine gospel outfit during its most commercial run. Personnel changes were always an issue for the quartet, and after 1950 the group essentially consisted of
Sam McCrary and whomever he drafted in under the
Fairfield Four moniker. ~ Steve Leggett
