System error 193 has occured. *** is not a valid Win32 application. - Microsoft Community

System error 193 has occured. *** is not a valid Win32 application.

My Computer, currently running Windows 7 , blue screened for the first time today... I didn't see the message as it automatically rebooted to quick, but since the reboot, the services "wlansvc" (WLAN AutoConfig) and "IPBusEnum" (PnP-X IP Bus Enumerator) are no longer starting automatically, and are not starting at all. When in Command Prompt as Administrator, I do "net start wlansvc", And I get this ..

"C:\Windows\system32>net start wlansvc
The WLAN AutoConfig service is starting.
The WLAN AutoConfig service could not be started.

A system error has occurred.

System error 193 has occurred.

*** is not a valid Win32 application."

The same error for the other above mentioned service.

I need to get these two services fixed and up and running, as the wireless is "VITAL" for my workstation.

Thanks-
Kyle

Answer

Hi Kyle Hulton,

This issue may occur if the path of the executable file for the service contains spaces.

Important: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Follow the steps given below:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

3. Locate, and then click the following registry entry, where <ServiceName> is the name of the service:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\<ServiceName>.

For example, if the service is named MyService, locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MyService key.

1. In the right pane, double-click ImagePath.

2. In the Value data box, add quotation marks around the complete path of the executable file for the service.

For example, if the path of the MyService service is C:\Program Files\MyProgram\MyService.exe, change the entry in the Value data box for the MyService service to the following

"C:\Program Files\MyProgram\MyService.exe"

3. Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.

Hope this helps!!
