Not 'Complete', But Still Five Stars

There are several songs missing from this 'complete' collection, many of which I first heard during their 1990s revival. Notable absentees are 'It's Hard to Leave', 'Bush Girl', and 'Guiding Light'. To hear these and some others, you'd have to purchase the 1997 'Future Road' album, currently not available at Amazon (but I paid $50 on E-Bay for it...).

That said though, this is still a collection worth having if you're a fan of distictively elegant feminine vocals. If you like any or all of Loreena McKennitt, Enya, Eva Cassidy, Priscilla Herdman or Kate Bush, you'll surely like this collection, if for no other reason than Judith Durham's classic - and very versatile - voice.

I've heard it said that 'In Canada, Celine Dion is liked; in Australia, Judith Durham is loved'. I can attest to that, having lived in both Britain and Australia during the 60s, when The Seekers actually rivalled both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in terms of sales during 1965. Most Seekers' fans will surely agree that her voice was by far the band's biggest attraction, though that's not to take anything away from the boys. In this same regard, it's worth mentioning this quote from Sir Elton John: "Judith Durham, like Eva Cassidy and Karen Carpenter, possesses the purest voice in popular music".

Even though incomplete, I was glad to find this, and it's well worth the five stars.

Almost too much but still worth the time.

Five disks of The Seekers with everything they ever did is almost too much but still worth the investment for someone semi-stuck in the 60's folk scene. You definitely don't want to put all five disks in the changer and listen to them back-to-back--maybe doing the shuffle with them would work.

It is an uneven collection with some of the early tracks fading in and out a little and some of the audition tracks aren't really worth having or listening to beyond the first time. After that, well, there's not much point in going back.

All in all, because I love Judith's voice, not another one in the world like it (some come close) all the big hits and the lesser ones are worth having and I come back to them often when I need my 60's fix.

The collection is worth having - a four disk set without the auditions and b sides would have worked just as well for me.

Judith Durham of *The Seekers* is a singer par excellence. She has great range, perfect pitch, precise enunciation and richly varied expression ~ she can sound happy, sad, sweet, strong, smooth or thrilling as suitable. But her male co-musicians can quite hold their own vocally ~ and lead at times as well. This group plays a NICE set of *old-school* [such as acoustic] instruments ~ such as piano, tambourine, double bass, twelve-string guitar, guitar, mandolin and banjos ~ all played with great musical artistry. *The Seekers* have a full rich sound with [usually] four members ~ presenting some Australian classics, many classics of the rest of the English singing world, some world classics and some of their own creations. This balanced folk / rock / pop mix is fine for most folks to listen too ~ especially as a thick Aussie accent is NOT present ~ even for the Aussie classics. I was a bit surprised by that ~ but liked it immediately. I can see just why *The Seekers* remain known and liked for many musical seekers +++

If you are a fan of the 60's pop/folk genre, you will appreciate this offering. As a personal opinion, in retrospect, the Seekers were the premier group of that style. This set covers much of their short 4 year existence. If you like the sounds of the original Seekers (A World of Our Own, Georgy Girl, I'll Never Find Another You) and especially Judith Durham, you will want this set. It is not comprehensive - it covers from the beginning years to some numbers done in the 90's during one of their reunion periods. There is some repetition of songs but only as they changed their presentation through their musical evolution.

This is from a lost era where pure talent was absolutely required. No hiding behind synths. overdubs or engineering magic. The Seekers box set is a must own for any (60's?) music lover. The price is a steal, most cd's have over 24 songs, one has 28! Their cover of The Wreck of the Old 97' rivals or tops any bluegrass band I have ever heard including Flatt & Scruggs, and this is from 63' - 64'! Their Bob Dylan covers put most others to shame. The set includes concert rarities, and more that one version of some of the best songs.

Everything the Seekers recorded is on these discs, with a couple of different versions of some songs and some live performances. One of the discs warns you that seven of the tracks were recorded from vinyl and are not broadcast quality. Very honest of them. The rest of the tracks are very good to excellent recordings and there is on average, over an hour of material on each disc. There are some rarities, with Keith Podger or Athol Guy singing lead. There are two versions of "When the Stars Begin to Fall". the older one is good, but Judith Durham's vocals are breathtaking in the later version. If you are a fan of the Seekers, this collection is a "must have". Highly recommended

Alles in allem ist es eine echt schöne Collection und jeder Fan der Seekers sollte diese 5-CD-Box in seiner Sammlung haben. Was ich nur ein bißchen schade finde ist, daß sich ein paar Lieder entweder auf der selben CD oder auf anderen CDs dieser 5er Box wiederholen. Es ist also nicht so, daß jeder Song auch einmal vorkommt in dieser 5er Collection, aber ansonsten echt super.
