Wheaton, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its 2024 All-CCIW Baseball Team on Tuesday. Four members of the Wheaton baseball team earned All-Conference recognition as
Kyle Wu and
Joe Klein each were named to the All-CCIW First Team.
Harrison Stanton and
Mason Diel each picked up Second Team All-Conference honors.
Wu, second baseman for the Thunder, is a First Team All-CCIW selection as an infielder this year to earn his second career All-Conference award. He was a Second Team selection in 2022. Wu led the Thunder with a .378 (54-for-143) batting average, tying for the team lead with 13 doubles and a home run. He drove in 26 runs and scored 26 runs this season, while stealing a team-high 16 bases. Wu was fourth in the CCIW this season in posting a .457 (37-for-81) batting average in CCIW play, a mark that led the Thunder lineup. He hit nine doubles in conference play with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored.
Klein, a First Team selection as an outfielder, earns his first career All-CCIW award. Klein was second among Thunder players this season with a .338 (49-for-145) batting average and a team-high .586 slugging percentage. He led the Thunder with eight home runs this season, adding 10 doubles and one triple. The senior led the squad in both RBI (31) and runs scored (33). Klein hit .346 (28-for-81) in CCIW games this season with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored. He hit five round trippers in conference play, with seven doubles.
Third baseman
Harrison Stanton (PICTURED LEFT) is a Second Team All-CCIW honoree for his second career All-Conference award. Stanton was a First Team honoree in 2022. He hit .325 (41-for-126) this year, scoring 26 runs and driving in 16. Stanton collected seven doubles and one triple. In CCIW action, he hit .326 (28-for-86), scoring 16 runs. Stanton had a stellar year defensively, making just two errors all season for a .977 fielding percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage in CCIW play with no errors in 54 total chances.
Designated hitter
Mason Diel (PICTURED RIGHT) is a Second Team All-CCIW honoree for the second time in his career. He also earned Second Team honors in the 2022 campaign. Diel hit .321 (44-for-137) this season, with three home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored. He compiled a .316 (25-for-79) batting average in CCIW play this year with nine RBI and 10 runs scored against league competition.
The CCIW also announced the baseball winners for each team of the RESPECT Award. Junior
Payton McClowry was Wheaton's honoree of the RESPECT Award. At the conclusion of every sports season, each varsity program will recognize one student-athlete as their RESPECT Award honoree. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.
