How can I test the IAC? Unplug Idle Air Control valve and Jeep still runs...

Should I be able to unplug my my IAC and the Jeep still run? The reason I ask is because I can do just that and the Jeep doesn't stop running or change anything at all - runs exactly the same w/ the IAC unplugged as it does with it plugged up. I'm not real sure how it's getting air to idle (unless I have a massive vacuum leak) unless the IAC is bad.

What do you guys think?

Is there any way to test IAC?

I have been running for a year with the IAC disconnected in my 94 ZJ. Runs great, no irradic idle ever. Disconnecting was the best test of my IAC. Normally starts in less than 1 sec. however on very cold Winter mornings it takes almost 2 sec. to start and idles a little sluggish for about 1/2 mile.

The approved test is to watch the rpms compensate for A/C operation. Turn on A/C and the rpms should dip briefly, then the IAC should immediately compensate for the compressor load.

When i cleaned my IAC during this past winter, i accidently left it and another sensor unplugged and the Jeep would start, but wouldnt idle and would die within a second or two. i looked bacvk under the hood plugged em in and everything was ok.

i dunno if that is relevant ore not

jeep guys,

do you know which other sensor was left unplugged? my jeep starts but does not idle at all. i have a thread that explains my problems.

thanks,
angel
if you want some help, a link would be nice

memory is kinda fuzzy but .. the TPS was for sure still disconnected (along with the IAC) and the MAP sensor may have been disconnected too.

plug in the IAC, plug in a scanner - command RPM change thru IAC function and observe.. Yeah having the tools can help.

Lets try basics - what year engine etc*, ideally scan for codes ( part store) post all codes..
Can you work with A DVOM and wiring diagram, I suspect code are present.

* I did not see the details - could just be me

Um, because it was at the top of the forum? It was just by happenstance that when i looked back at the original question i saw the date and realized how old it was. Since jtec was asking questions as if it was a current troubleshooting problem, i thought i would point it out.
