Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai got hitched on this date ten years ago. Together, the Bachchan couple have appeared in a staggering eight films together and according to reports, they might just appear in one more. While their films have seen varying degress of commercial success, seldom has it been said that they look bad together or that they don't have chemistry. Contrary to popular opinion, the couple of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is the rare jodi which has shone in films despite the two of them being each other's lovers and later, spouses.

Abhishek and Aishwarya first appared together in a not-so-memorable, Bollywood romantic musical, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. The two looked beautiful together on the big screen and the songs of the film became mighty popular. However, the film tanked at the box office. Nevertheless, the image of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai romancing each other had been etched in the minds of the aam aadmi.

Soon after, they appeared in Rohan Sippy's 2003 film Kuch Naa Kaho. Aishwarya Rai gets a tough role in this film and once again, Abhishek and Aishwarya share amazing chemistry. But the movie did not work at the box office and like their earlier film, this time too the soundtrack (by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) was a huge success.

Abhishek and Aishwarya then appeared in the 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli. Though Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did not have a full-fledged role in the film, her item song Kajra Re is still the most memorable aspect of the film today. Both father and son, Amitabh and Abhishek, showed great chemistry with Aishwarya as the trio did a jig to what was in 2006 nothing less than a musical phenomenon.

Aishwarya and Abhishek then starred in JP Dutta's ill-fated 2006 remake of Umrao Jaan. Aishwarya stepped into Rekha's shoes to portray the titular character and without a doubt, she looked splendid in the get-up as she lip-synced to Alka Yagnik's voice. Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan played the role of Nawab made famous by Farooq Shaikh in the 1981 original. The film's theme was too arcane for the 2006 audience and the public could not engage with such a slow-paced film.

Just a few weeks later that very year, Aishwarya and Abhishek appeared in Dhoom 2, the second film of the hit Yash Raj Films franchise. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played a world-class thief Sunehri and for the most part of the film did not share any scenes with her future hubby as she was paired with Hrithik Roshan. Nevertheless, Dhoom 2 became the first box-office hit for an Aishwarya-Abhishek film.

The next year, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appeared in Mani Ratnam's Guru. Guru had Abhishek and Aishwarya's career-best performances and the film received both critical and commercial acclaim. In Guru, Abhishek and Aishwarya's chemistry was explored at its maximum by director Mani Ratnam. They portrayed a couple that battled odds and survived trials and tribulations over years. Sadly though, Abhi and Ash could not manage to re-create the magic of Guru in their subsequent films.

Post-marriage, the first release of Abhishek and Aishwarya was Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj. The political thriller was a modest box-office hit and Abhi and Ash were mildly praised for their roles in a film headlined by Amitabh Bachchan. Abhishek and Aishwarya were by then grabbing headlines more for their marriage than their films and Sarkar Raj was a minor ripple in the course of things until...

Raavan came. This Mani Ratnam action-adventure was one of the most awaited films of the year. Mounted on a high budget and shot in exotic locales, Raavan featured an unique story-line with author-backed roles for both Abhishek and Aishwarya. However, Mani Ratnam seemed to bite on more than what he could chew and the film tanked at the box office badly.

With that, Abhishek and Aishwarya stopped appearing in films altogether. They might soon star in a film together with Anurag Kashyap as producer. After eight films together, it would really be a cinematic treat to watch the couple once again in the same frame on the big screen.
