One of the most bizarre movies that I have ever seen, The Key is both better and worse than I thought it would be. It’s like a series of sometimes coherent images with an audiobook that half of the time matches up with is going on screen.
As an audiobook, it’s not half bad and both David Arqutte and Bai ling are solid in their roles. As a movie, it is an utter baffling watch (some parts feel like they came out something from a RLM or AVGN video) and you would honestly be best just listening to it while you do something else. I also think that this is trying to criticize cuckolding but I don’t think even the movie knows itself either.
In the end, just decide for yourself whether or not you want to watch it.
David Arquette and Bai Ling star as a married couple who don’t seem to communicate but we hear their intimate thoughts via each of their diaries which are mostly concerning their sexual desires and thoughts. Interestingly filmed but the layered shots and filming style wears out its welcome early on.
Nobody wanted David Arquette's diary but we have it and it's dismayingly not the stale spaghetti bread-basket that one would imagine.
I have literally never seen anything like this in my life? Oh my god? It’s like if ‘the key’ was a Photo Booth music video? If you smashed it through the ig toast filter and then self published it on Amazon- I can’t imagine reading that book and rendering a single one of the images in this film?? Completely vile.
THE KEY's commitment to its electric aesthetic is impressive, but outside of visuals there isn't much else.
