‘The Robots Go Crazy’: Radio Silence And Andy Samberg’s Action-Comedy Heads To Amazon/MGM

Following horrors Ready or Not, a pair of Scream films, and Abigail, the directing duo Radio Silence are going in a different direction. Deadline reports Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will produce and direct action-comedy The Robots Go Crazy, starring Andy Samberg.

This is the film announced just last month before its title was known. Amazon/MGM have picked up the rights, but it is likely to get a theatrical release prior to streaming. All of Radio Silence’s prior films have made it into theaters, and have been successes. Why mess with a good thing?

There are no plot details yet, but the title says a lot. Can we assume some kind of global robot attack? Then again, this is also a comedy so maybe it’s AI electronics going haywire? Samberg in the role of action hero could be money, though.

The script is by Andrew Lanham, who has worked frequently with Destin Daniel Cretton on The Glass Castle, Just Mercy, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Radio Silence will produce the film alongside Samberg and his Lonely Island crew, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. Samberg will be seen next in Lee, the war photographer biopic starring Kate Winslet.
