ACTION: Hired a new athletic director.

DISCUSSION: The board approved hiring Larry Kinnard as the athletic director. The board also accepted Kinnard’s resignation as assistant athletic director at the high school. Kinnard’s resignation is effective July 31. He takes on his new role as athletic director at Hoover High School on Aug. 1.

“There is a lot to look forward to in my new role," he said in a prepared statement. "I am most excited to get to work with athletes, families, and coaches more closely.”

Kinnard has worked for North Canton City Schools for five years. While working in security and facilities, he earned his master's degree in athletic administration from Ohio University.

Kinnard also brings athletic experience, having earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Mount Union in Alliance, where he played football for four years. Then, he coached the defensive line at Hoover High School.

“Larry's passion for North Canton and our student-athletes makes him an ideal choice for the role of athletic director," high school principal Eric Bornstine said in a prepared statement. "His high standards will continue to drive the athletic office towards excellence, prioritizing both our student-athletes and the North Canton community."

Kinnard’s salary was not available at the time of the meeting.

OTHER ACTIONS:

  • Approved a list of 348 graduates pending completion of all local and state requirements. Graduation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday, with rain dates of Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week at 7 p.m. It will be held at Memorial Stadium.
  • Approved several resolutions for the district’s building project: Sol Harris/Day Architecture Inc. as the architect/engineer; Hammond Construction as the construction manager at risk; Brewer-Carrett Co. as the commissioning agent.; and Project Management Consultants LLC as neutral facilitation consultant for partnering sessions.
  • Approved several contract agreements including: iVideo Technologies for Hoover High School Studio Control Room upgrade at a cost of $121,971;and Easton Construction for the construction of a new parking lot at North Canton Primary School at a cost of $463,568.
  • Accepted a number of donations, including: $10,000 from Haas Foundation for scholarships and $25,000 from an anonymous donor for the purchase of new track and cross country uniforms.
