George's mother in MBE fury.
Byline: SIOBHAN GAFFNEYPOP icon Boy George yesterday told of his Irish mother's anger after he turned down an MBE from the Queen.
The Culture Club star, whose parents are both from Ireland, said his mum exploded with ra__ at his decision to refuse the accolade last year.
He added: "My mum, I think, would have liked to have gone to Buckingham Palace.
"She said I was really selfish and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have been born.
"She said I could have hung the MBE in my window and I told her that it was a shame she didn't give birth to Cliff Richard."
The singer-turned-DJ revealed he rejected the top award because he does not believe in the monarchy.
George said: "I'm not really a royalist.
"And I wasn't really sure why I was being offered one.
"It's like the Cornflake seal of approval, it's so establishment and I'm not and I don't want it."
