How to Unlock Umbral Flames

Craft at the Silver Pool

The Umbral Flames is automatically unlocked in the Crossroads but still needs to be crafted using 3x Silver and 3x Cinder.

This weapon has decent range and damage in its Attacks, but its appeal can be seen most in its Special which mimics the same attack Hecate uses when you fight her as the Guardian of Erebus. Equipped with the right Boons and you have a protective barrier against you and enemies.

Hephaestus Boons for AoE Damage

Hephaestus' Boons for Attack and Special give an additional Blast effect, increasing your initial damage, and dealing the same amount of damage to nearby enemies.

This is great together with the Umbral Flames since it has decent range, but lower damage output, so increasing your damage output and an AoE attack allows you to defeat groups of enemies faster.

Hestia Boons for Burn

The Burn effect from Hestia's Boons provide an additional damage over time for your attacks, allowing you to hit your opponent several times, then focus on dodging while their HP goes down from the burn.

With Boons that make breaking armor easier, this is a great option to run with Umbral Flames to deal with Guardians and Bosses.

Zeus Boons for Blitz

Zeus' Boon, particularly Heaven Strike, is beneficial since you'll be spamming your Attacks from a distance anyway. This could inflict the Blitz Curse to deal even more damage after the damage output threshold is met.

Best Hammer Upgrades for Umbral Flames

Melting Comet

Melting Comet changes your Special to fire straight ahead and destroy 80% of any Armor (based on the total). This is a reasonable advantage in further levels and dungeons where Armored enemies become the norm.

Perhaps the only drawback is that it does not fully reinforce your Special, but rather reinforces attacks made on Armored enemies alone.

Split Fire

Split Fire will help you maximize the output of your Umbral Flames by splitting the projectiles into two the first time they hit an enemy. The only drawback to this is that the attacks must land a hit in order to split and multiply. This could help you clear enemies faster especially when they tend to group together to attack.
