After a week in French Quarter we had rented a car to drive thru the Delta for 3 weeks. Prior to flight home we stayed final 2 days at Alder Hotel Uptown. A great bargain with a huge clean well-appointed room (with a small balcony) featuring high quality timber furniture and a well-equipped kitchenette – so we shopped for breakfast items in nearby St – Rouses Markets – fresh fruit, cinnamon rolls, yoghurt. Bathroom was good with a shower that did not spill over the floor. Super comfy king bed with crisp as new sheets. Plenty of power and light. Desk, but no little table/chars for breakfast and no suitcase stands. Free secure parking opposite hotel Very comforting to see security guys always present. Pleasant desk and room staff.
My friends and myself stayed there for 6 nights in July and August. The rooms were spacious and clean and the showers had excellent water pressure. Also, the lobby did offer very good coffee. The staff was extremely helpful and one of them helped me find my misplaced wallet. They do not offer breakfast, but you can go to the Bear Cat Cafe a block away for delicious food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alder Hotel and I would highly recommend it if you visit New Orleans.
This is a hidden jew of New Orleans especially if your child is a patient at the Children's hospital. We booked this place because of it being close to Children's hospital, our son was having a operation there. We were given a medical discount, the room was clean and very roomy, each room had a balcony. The only thing that I didn't care for was that the parking lot was across the street but you can unload and load bags right outside the front door too. Ice machine was located on the 5th floor, laundry is on the 9th floor. They have a pool, we didn't use it but it looked very clean. The evening our son was released from the hospital the hotel had a wheel chair that we borrowed to get our son to our room and the next morning we used it to him into our car to go home. The receptionist was very nice, I had a bag of stuff I was carrying while trying to push the wheelchair it spilled on the lobby floor and she got me a trash bag to reload my things. This hotel doesn't serve breakfast but they have a mini store like area where you can purchase snacks and food to eat in your room. Oh I wanted to mention that the biggest surprise at this hotel was the real dishes and silverware located in our room along with a microwave and mini fridge. Thank you so much for this! It was so nice to be able to eat in our room after being at the hospital for 12+ hrs worrying about our child, he rested in bed while we made a small meal. It rained that evening and we were able to open the curtains and sliding door to listen to the rain. Internet also worked good at this hotel. We also saw security several times in the parking lot. Thank you Alder for making our stay comfortable and we know exactly where to stay on our next visit to New Orleans. …
If this place was in the Quarter, it would easily be double the price. Parking is free and is monitored by security and a hospital is next door. The hotel has a cute retro vibe and the room was clean. The staff were friendly and we felt very comfortable staying here with our toddler. The location is great, it’s two streets up from Freret St where there are multiple restaurants, and there are bus stops nearby and everything is within a 15 minute drive. The room had a mini fridge, microwave, and real dishes and metal utensils, plenty of towels and little toiletries. The convenience area in the lobby was small and expensive, but that’s why it’s convenient I guess (however they always have coffee going at the coffee station)! There’s a Walgreens and CVS nearby, along with a grocery mart if you need anything! Bonus: next to the parking lot there are wild chickens. My toddler loved watching them run around.…
Third visit to the Alder this year, we only wish we had found it sooner, while our son was at Tulane. Best kept secret in NOLA. Not only are the rooms spotless, large and have balconies - they have full kitchenettes. Supplies are plates, utensils and glasses with a coffee maker and microwave. And, for those not visiting in November when the temp was 40 overnight - a pool! Outside patio and inside work/gathering area. We have stayed downtown, in the Garden District and on St. Charles and the Alder stands a head above the pricey hotels. That said, it is not in walking distance to the standard attractions. Feret Street restaurants and a grocery store are nearby. If you're heading to the Quarter you're probably taking an Uber, so it matters little. Oh, and did I relay they have free parking? Totally Alder for the win!…
Overall we had a great stay at the hotel. It has modern facilities and the morning staff at the reception is extremely friendly and helpful (the evening staff - much less so...). If you have a car - it is close enough to the city attractions and yet reasonably priced. The only problem we experienced is that during our 2-night stay, our room was not serviced or supplied with clean towels, shampoo etc. (which was only enough for one day). Only upon checkout we were told that rooms are serviced only once every 3 days.
My husband and I have stayed at a number of places in New Orleans to visit family, and this is now our favorite because: Rooms are spacious, nice and clean Everyone who works there has a great attitude and provides wonderful service Location is very convenient to great dining, Audubon Park, awesome MoJo coffee house FREE PARKING (most hotels charge $50-$60 a night for parking in New Orleans) Access to nearby fitness center Very reasonably priced We have stayed at more expensive places and even some B&Bs, but this is by far the most comfortable, convenient and happiest experience. Special thanks to the managers and front desk staff, who always greet you with a smile. Highly recommend!
The reviews are all true. This place is FANTASTIC. It may not look like much when you drive through a sketchy part of town from the airport... and then right through the adjacent hospital... and then get out of the car to see a non-descript hotel entrance... but you're rewarded once you walk through the door. Amy at the front desk took her time to get us oriented with the surroundings and how to take advantage of our 1 1/2 days in New Orleans. The room was clean, had ample space with 2 queen beds, and the precautions taken around the hotel and in the room due to COVID were excellent. The location offers access to a variety of great restaurants by foot (Bear Cat Cafe, High Hat Cafe, Superior Seafood), and it's a safe 1 mile walk to the street car on St. Charles. We enjoyed dinner in the Garden District (Little Korea BBQ- highly recommended), with just a $9 Uber. When we checked out to head to the airport, the bellman warmly appreciated the tip (compared to most hotels where a bellman would have fully expected it). If you want to experience the warmth of the locals, and don't mind an Uber or streetcar to the mandatory visit to the French Quarter, this place was a really great way to experience New Orleans with my daughter.…
We had a very good experience for the most part. Room was spacious, beds were comfortable, staff was very pleasant and helpful, and there was plenty of drawer and cabinet space. First problem was a locked safe from prior guest - no big deal, someone came up right away to unlock. Second, the soap tray in the shower was hanging on by two loose screws. This was obvious to me as I wiped down the shower before we used it, so it should have been obvious to housekeeping. It made me wonder if housekeeping really cleaned the shower, because if they did, they could not have missed the broken soap tray, and would have gotten it fixed. (I did not report this issue because I didn’t want someone coming into the room for a second time, and the issue was more of a suspicion about lack of cleaning than the actual broken soap dish.) I also noticed fingerprints on light switches and a sticky feeling to the countertops. (I didn’t downgrade more than 1 star for the cleaning issues because I was planning to wipe down everything anyhow.)…
We stayed at Alder Hotel Uptown for a week. This hotel looks a little outdated outside, but it’s nice and clean inside. Located in a safe and convenient location, close to many restaurants, Magazine Street, CBD, Warehouse district, and French Quarter are all within 10-15 mins driving. Parking is free which is very hard to find in NOLA and staff are nice and responsive. We highly recommend this hotel if you visit NOLA.
