Detailed Reviews
My husband and I spent a night here to celebrate our anniversary. The room was quiet and clean. I enjoyed having a living room and small kitchen. The kitchen is not very well stocked if you intend to cook and utilize it. No measuring cups, one pot, limited utensils. The carpeting was dated and the bathroom was very tiny, but overall, the room was nice and we had a nice view of the pool and lake. I had not complaints on the bed. The staff was very friendly and wore masks and gloves. We enjoyed the pool and grounds. This used to be a monastery, but most of the religious statues are gone. Interesting that the pillars and bases still remain, but most of the statues are not there. I am sure it was too much to maintain as what does remain needs attention and repair. We had a nice dinner. It was very romantic with candlelight and a piano player. I appreciated that the chef worked with my multiple diet restrictions. The food was good, but not top notch. You are paying for the view, which was lovely.

Response from William Schickel, General Manager at Geneva on the Lake Resort Hotel
Responded Aug 7, 2020
We are so glad you spent your anniversary with us and that you enjoyed your suite! We do apologize that the kitchenette was not stocked for all of your needs. We are able to provide any extra utensils or cooking supplies guests may need if they call down to the front desk. We are so glad that you enjoyed your dinner! We are always happy to accomodate guests needs! We hope to see you in the future!

The staff at this hotel are wonderful, friendly and they are very helpful. Noah in the dining room was excellent. The hotel is “okay”. Our room did not resemble the pictures, it was very dated. It was clean and the bed was comfortable but the bathroom was small and it as well as the small kitchen date at least 30-40 years old. There is no elevator. - so unless your on the ground floor you have to hall your luggage up and down the stairs. The food in the dining room is good quality, but it’s overpriced. There are several good restaurants in the area that offer similar quality for 20% less. Breakfast is reasonable in price. They charged us $15 a glass for a local wine ( we asked for house ) that was excellent. That said you can get an excellent wine at Bellhurst castle ( 0.5 miles away ) for $10-$12 a glass. The dining room, parlor and grounds are clean and well maintained, but also very dated. So the prices don’t match up to the standards across the property. They had live music at night which was nice.

My husband and I got engaged at Geneva on the Lake in 2014 and returned this Labor Day for a secondary visit to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary (we were married in 2015). Both times we stayed in The Library suite and it is my absolute favorite! Full kitchen which is great for longer stays and for storing your wine, a wonderful fireplace with plenty of provided logs to enjoy. The suite is very spacious and the architecture throughout the entire premise is breathtaking. The owner is second generation as his father opened it as an Inn originally. The food is wonderful, a nightcap in the parlor is a perfect start or end to your evening, and the grounds and pool are enviable. We absolutely adore the Finger Lakes and if we are looking to splurge this is our place - you have all the wineries so close but then you come back to a little quiet oasis of old world hospitality and elevated luxury service. I cannot wait to return and won’t wait 6 years to do so!

My husband and I decided to try out Geneva on the Lake to celebrate our anniversary. To sum it up we were disappointed and completely underwhelmed.
I’ll start with the positive:
The grounds are beautiful and we did enjoy sitting and enjoying the view, laying in the hammock while the sunset, and the pool. The fireplace in our room provided a nice ambiance. The bathroom was fairly clean. That’s about where any positive experience stops.
The negative:
At 3 o’clock we entered the front desk area (down a narrow hall to the business office) to be told she was uncertain if our room was ready and having to wait a few minutes for it to be cleaned.
The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever had at a hotel. I know it is a Murphy bed, but I have used Murphy beds in the past and I didn’t wake up feeling like my back was out. I would compare it to an old pull out couch.
The room is very dated. I understand it is an old building and antique furnishings add the to charm, but an 80s oven, tables, and couches are not antiques and not charming.
The bathroom is tiny, if a taller/larger guest was to use it their knees would be in the wall.
Now dinner:
We had reservations for 6 o clock on the patio. We were seated and then waited over a half hour to be served our drinks. We watched multiple tables be seated after us and immediately be served their drinks and fresh bread. Our waitress finally returned with our drinks (champagne cocktail and old fashioned). She put a lemon in my husband’s old fashioned instead of an orange. We did not get our bread until after our meal was served.
We both ordered the filet. My husband ordered rare and I ordered medium. His steak came out well done. The waitress did immediately send it back but even the second one was not rare.
The food was incredibly bland. No seasonings whatsoever. Salt and pepper can go a long way! The mashed potatoes were plain and unseasoned. The vegetables were burnt and no flavor either. We decided to pass on the over priced desserts after such a disappointing dinner.
If you look like you have it, they will fall over themselves to please you. If you don’t look like what they expect money to look like be prepared to be disappointed.

This Hotel is way over priced for what you get. The exterior grounds are beautiful and the rooms are large, but that's as far as it goes. The furnishings, flooring (carpets and tile areas) are in need of a major remodel.
The service was also a big disappointment. While we understand they are not providing maid service during COVID at no time were fresh towels, linen, bath products offered during our stay. The TV were flimsy and could not connect to any streaming services. (Not a big deal, but again not worthy of a $500/night hotel). They should have provided a tray of fresh towels, toiletries and a hamper for dirty towels each morning.
The restaurant was also disappointing. Again, very over priced, dark, and service was completely lacking. We ate there for breakfast 1 time, there were 2 tables occupied (including ours) and it took an inordinate to get our food and coffe refills were rarer than hens teeth. A third party arrived and literally waited 15 minutes to be greeted at the desk.
Enough of the negative. Again, the grounds are lovely and there was plenty to do to keep our 5 year old occupied and have fun.
This is a $250/night hotel at best.

My husband and I have been here several times and absolutely love it! A great place to escape from the hectic pace of life. Very quiet, with a tremendous sense of place and time. Rooms and suites are lovely. The staff is very accommodating and customer oriented. The restaurant is excellent, with chef prepared fine dinner entrees. The night we were there, London McDaniel was playing the guitar. He was excellent and we had pleasant conversation with him throughout the evening. Fresh brewed coffee and baked goods are complimentary every morning, and a marvelous way to start the day. Their restaurant also serves a first class breakfast. We always stay in the Library Suite, and it feels like our own little house! Geneva on the Lake has excellently kept grounds and the Inn itself is kept in very good condition - quite impressive! It is only a few miles from downtown Geneva, so there is lots to do if you venture out. Thank you to the whole team that made our stay so memorable!

We were there at the restaurant 2 weeks ago with a party of 6 for dinner. Very nice place, great view and garden, but the whole dinner was very disappointing and too expensive for what is being offered. It started out that the cocktail ( whiskey sour) came without any garnish. Followed by unpolished wineglasses full of water stains. I shared the crab cake appetizer with my husband. Looked and tasted like deep fried. Had nothing to do with a fluffy moist crab cake. We had a rack of lamb and the duck breast for main course. I expected more than 4 thin slices of duck for 49 dollar. The lamb was cold, the veggies lukewarm. After complaining about that the meat was lukewarm but at least the veggies were hot ;-). (52dollar)
The waitress was very nice and polite but in a restaurant like this I expect a well trained and attentive staff. We had to get up and get the bottle from the wine cooler ourself to refill our wineglasses.
This is definitely not called “fine dining”

Yes as others have pointed out, this hotel is a little tired looking. But really it is quite a gem. We stayed in a landmark king w 2 twins. This was an 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen! The grounds are beautiful, awesome safe space for kids. Gorgeous views of the lake. There is not a tremendous staff here, but EVERYONE is there to help make you feel comfortable and safe and are responsive if you have an issue. We had a delicious dinner at Lancelottis. which was outside under a pergola with quiet dinner music so you could still carry on a conversation. You can walk into town easily past beautiful historic homes. We will be back.

We reserved the Historic Loft Suite for a 3 day weekend. Upon arrival and without comment but with a long wait for a Bellman we were shown to a two bedroom suite on the second of three floors. Not a loft. I thought I had misremembered the photos on their website. I couldn't look at the site while there because the so-called high-speed internet is non-existent and cell service has one bar. When I got home I looked at the website and found that we did reserve a loft but didn't get it.
The grounds and view of the lake are lovely but not worth the room rate. And if you come here you shouldn't be using the wifi anyway, you should be enjoying the grounds and lake.

As others have reported; we thought from the pictures that we were booking a ‘Boutique Resort Hotel” on our trip to the Finger Lakes, where we have stayed at various hotels in our trips. We were staying for just one evening and luckily for us considering the restaurant reviews, had reservations at The Port down the road.
Arriving late afternoon, we were surprised to learn that our one bedroom suite was a third floor walk up a narrow stairway that was about the size of a fire escape. Although the front desk person was kind enough to offer to carry my bag, my husband had to carry his two and I had my small one. After sitting in the car for our drive out on the longest day, lugging wheeled luggage up three flights was not easy and our backs paid for it. Negotiating the stairway down the next morning with all our luggage was also no easy task.
As also noted, the room was dated and tired but functional; however, most importantly, it was double the price, at $371.00 of the other, much nicer hotels we stayed in on our trip. Most peculiar was that you had to go outside to go in to the dining room where breakfast was an additional charge.

The entire resort could use an update. The decor is outdated and in some cases just needs to be replaced. Our room had a kitchenette, the oven was out of service and the fridge was so old the entire one side was rusty. These are things that you just don't expect from a resort at this price point. The grounds are truly what makes this resort.
Pool is heated by the sun. All I know is it was cold in June.
Did not see the bar, but hairdryer S were good
I believe they do.
