History
However, a time traveler named Eobard Thawne, who lost his powers while trying to kill Barry Allen in the past and therefore was stranded in the early 2000s, purposefully caused Wells' car to crash. Using future technology, Thawne transferred Wells' DNA to himself, gaining the scientist's physical appearance and adopting Wells' persona as his own.
