Hazard retired from football in October

Eden Hazard retired in October of last year, but there is a condition in his 2019 transfer to Real Madrid that helps Chelsea gain an additional £5 million.

Hazard signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid for an initial payment of £88 million, which was set to expire this summer.

Due to lucrative possible add-ons, the package may have cost up to £150 million, of which £130 million had already been earned, depending on performance. Furthermore, Hazard’s bonuses are still valid till the conclusion of his original contract even though he put up his shoes seven months ago.

The Telegraph claims that because Madrid have advanced to the Champions League final, Chelsea are expected to get £5 million.

Selling Hazard, then 28 years old, to Real Madrid before the 2019–20 season is regarded as one of the smartest transactions in modern football history.

This is due to the Belgian’s form drastically declining at the Bernabeu. He played in 76 games across all competitions in four seasons, however, he only scored seven goals and provided twelve assists. The previous summer, his contract was cancelled.

That total was lower than his incredible 21 goals and 17 assists from his last season at Stamford Bridge. During his seven years at Chelsea, the winger achieved two Premier Leagues, two Europa Leagues, an FA Cup, and an EFL Cup, making him one of the best players in the world.

In addition, he made three appearances in the top 10 for the Ballon d’Or, peaking at seventh in 2018. He is scheduled to go back to Stamford Bridge for Soccer Aid on June 9.

He said, “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time,” when he announced his retirement in October. “I have made the decision to terminate my professional football career after 16 years and over 700 games played.”
