There are 2 ways to do this spa. One is general public admission and the other is not lol. We chose the not! The entire experience was first class - from being greeted at the front door to our spa treatments - it was well managed and the staff were fantastic. We had our own private locked change room (highly recommend spending the money on this). You get to go in the private lagoon area and not swim around with a ton of people in the general population. (Yuck). We had a lava scrub, salt scrub, algae body mask and oil treatments. All were heavenly. The restaurant is 5 star. Food and service is amazing. We had steak, cauliflower and goat cheese dish, their homemade hummus and homemade seed crackers (to die for) and the beef tataki. All were amazing. I was sad that we only went for one day. The next time I go, I would stay at the Blue Lagoon hotel and spend 2-3 days at the spa. I’ve been to some is the worlds best spas (think Bali etc) and this ranks up there. Wonderful experience worth every penny! Spend the extra and really do it right! You won’t be disappointed.

The public areas, the spa areas (including the sauna, steam room, etc.) and the rooms are spectacular. Our room had the bed facing floor to ceiling windows, with a tub having the same views, a large shower, ample wash and toilet area. The only problem we had with the room were the mechanisms for controlling the lights. It is all push buttons with labels that are somewhat ambiguous and it can be difficult to adjust for a level between full brightness and off.

Access to a separate area of the Blue Lagoon restricted to persons staying at the Retreat or who purchase a day pass. We made appointments for “massages” this being at the end of our trip and thinking about it being a relaxing final afternoon. In this instance, the “we” who made this arrangement did not actually include me and, as it turned out, we had booked “water massages.” A water massage is more water than massage, but it was okay as a once in a lifetime experience that I would not choose to do again. Basically, you lay face up on a yoga mat in a small area of the Blue Lagoon with a towel wet with warm lagoon water placed on you. Periodically, to keep you warm, the massage therapist will push you deeper under the water to warm up the towel. The massage part of the experience was very mediocre and I felt as if the therapist was not really engaged in providing a massage. I focused on looking at the sky, hoping for clearing of clouds. My wife reported a better massage experience. Overall, I would pass.

Because this was a day of travel and we were departing for the U.S. the next day, we passed on our reservation for Moss Reservation and the two-hour tasting menu experience. Instead, we ate at Lava the alternative restaurant choice, which was mediocre at best. Given another stay at the Retreat, I would definitely try Moss.

As an interior designer I can appreciate the interiors and finishes to understand the effort to put it altogether. From my welcome Icelandic water and the sincere touches like the turndown sweets on my bed, I loved everything about my stay here. The shower is next level and the quality of water feels like it’s filtered... high end bedding and authentic designer furniture add to the experience... each and every person was at their best, I always felt welcome wherever I went. The extra special experience was wearing my robe EVERYWHERE I went!

The Retreat at the Blue Lagoon is located at the furthest end of Blue Lagoon hidden away before you get to the main entrance. The Blue Lagoon is about a 15 minute drive from the airport, KEF. The hotel is a modern and functional design with exquisite features and geared towards the upmarket segment. The main feature is of course the Spa and the access to the Lagoon hotspring, but it also features fine dining and recreation. You room key as well as all you purchases is done via a bracelet and apart from the fine dining you are encouraged to use the bathrobes throughout the hotel. The breakfast, afternoon tea and the minibar is all included in the rate. The Spa offers direct access to the Lagoon as well as a series of treatments. Don't miss the free treatments in the cave! If you need more action than the Spa, then there is a full size gym and a yoga studio. The rooms are big and well planned and equipped with balcony and rainfall shower and upscale bathtubs. There are fantastic views from the room and on clear nights you can see the northern lights. The staff are fantastic and very helpful and friendly. I would thoroughly recommend a stay!

Though the price tag is high for this hotel, it’s worth every single penny. Every minute of our stay here was perfection. We booked the lagoon suite which was absolutely breathtaking. Also it’s incredibly quiet. We slept with the door open both nights of our stay and you literally could hear a pin drop. We finally got some sleep! The service is unmatched. Every person we interacted with was so friendly. They also refilled our mini bar twice a day which I’ve never seen a hotel so. The room price includes private access to the blue lagoon, a spa ritual with different mud masks, and access to the main lagoon. Everyone walks around in their robes it’s so calming and relaxed. This was by far my favorite place I’ve ever been!

From the moment we arrived the staff provided a high quality service. We were given a tour of the hotel and spa. The room was lovely, very spacious and the bed was so comfy! We stayed in a lagoon view junior suite on the ground floor, the view from our room was fantastic and it was very quiet, you wouldn’t know the hotel was full.

The breakfast selection was fantastic, so much choice from pastries and fresh fruit to delicious hot food to order such as omelettes and English breakfast.
We loved the afternoon tea in the lobby, this was a really great touch to be able to sit down for hot drinks and pastries.
We ate in the spa restaurant for one of our evening meals which was delicious.

The retreat lagoon is incredible, it is very quiet at most times of the day. It was very nice to enjoy the calm and private area. We did venture over to the main lagoon mainly to take some photos but it was very busy. You cannot use your phone to take pictures in the spa and private lagoon but the staff will come out and take these for you and they’re fantastic pictures we received.

The facilities in the spa are really something, there are so many different rooms to use. We made sure to try out everything including going from the sauna into the freezing water pool (very refreshing!)
I highly recommend taking part in the spa ritual which left my skin feeling immaculate.

If you have time I’d recommend asking about the walking trails. The hotel gave us a map, we took the simple route that led us towards the mountain you can see from the hotel. It was very easy to follow.

I attended the yoga class which runs each morning, the teacher was lovely and welcoming. The class itself was fantastic and would recommend making time for it if you can.

Overall we had the most incredible 2 nights here and I hope that some day we will be able to return for another visit as it is well worth the money!

This was the best (and by far the most expensive) hotel I stayed in Iceland. Yet, with a price tag of upwards of USD$1200 per room per night, you’d be forgiven if you expect quite a lot better.

Firstly, the hardware / physical facilities are stunning. Architecturally beautiful, modern, sleek and with some smart features. The spa is world class helped by the natural hot water from the surrounding geothermal grounds. Most of the facility especially the rooms use dark coloured tiles and floors so if you don’t like dark coloured rooms, you won’t like this hotel. The room lighting is also quite dim.

Reception staff were responsive and helpful and welcoming.

The room I got was a lagoon view terrace suite. About 40 square meters. Not big but ok. A very good bed which was firm and they provided foam / orthopaedic pillows which I had pre-requested. The bathroom shower was perhaps the best I’ve ever experienced. Powerful shower.

There was no work desk in the room. Some of the amenities you’d expect in a five star luxury hotel were missing including the absence of cups for washing or rinsing your mouth while brushing teeth! No tv. No clock. I suppose the hotel wants the experience to be one where guests can relax fully without disturbance.

Breakfast was very good. Great selection of the usual cold cuts, pastries, breads, spreads and some fruit and cereals. Plus eggs cooked to order.

The private lagoon and spa were the main highlights.

For the price tag, I can’t help but feel that it is a bit overpriced compared to some of the other top notch resorts in Asia and Europe.

Okay, so it is not cheap to stay at The Retreat but I have stayed in places more expensive that don't offer half the great facilities and customer service of this amazing place. Also, when you consider that a beautiful and imaginative multi-course dinner is included in the price, plus the spa, plus a glass of champagne on arrival, plus a complimentary mini bar in the room (with free re-fills if you ask) and their own Retreat toiletries, then all of a sudden it becomes pretty good value in my opinion. The advantage of staying at the Retreat though over its 'cheaper' neighbouring hotel is the quietness and feeling of luxury and exclusivity. The lovely, relaxing hot lagoons are almost empty and in the spa staff are on hand to talk you through the exfoliating routine, including saunas, freezing plunge pool and clay body packs. Sadly due to our schedule I could only stay one night but I just loved this place and will definitely return. Thanks for a lovely stay and hopefully see you soon!

We visited the Retreat at Blue Lagoon in January of 2020. Fantastic stay. The staff were helpful, friendly, flexible, and not afraid of suggesting more economical means to do the kind of things we wanted to do - so unusual as most places try to sell you whatever will make money for them instead of trying to help their guests. The food was great too. A small word of warning on "The Ritual" : if you have sensitive skin, avoid the first part. It gave me a rash rather than helped my skin. Might have been my fault for rubbing it in too hard. We ended up booking an extra night because we were so happy with the Retreat, and it was low season so there were rooms available... plus there was a storm that shut down all the roads that night. Highly recommended.
