This cast of characters is just as good as the original 1966 cast from 52 years ago

If you are of middle age then you most likely experienced at some point during your teenage years actors Adam West and Burt Ward playing Batman and Robin respectively from 1966-1968 for three glorious seasons. The 1960's weekly Batman comedy capers were filled with top stars and goofy plots. This version of the Dark Knight: To Our Deaths and Beyond is also filled with a great ensemble cast of villains and heroes who go to extremes to reign as King and/or Queen of the dark and foggy streets of Gotham.

Two of my favorites are Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, played to perfection by Robin Lord Taylor and the sleek, sexy and tough as nails whip wielding Tabitha Galavan played by Jessica Lucas.

Each week the series develops a unique story line and this episode has various banks in Gotham being robbed and the two top cops are rogue Detective Harvey Bullock played by Donal Logue, and tough talking Detective James Gordon played by Ben McKenzie who need to root out this weeks criminal masterminds behind the bank robbery spree so that next weeks episode can continue with a new crime spree being perpetrated by another bang of gun toting, crazy looking Gotham goons.

I give this weeks episode (and most all episodes) a 10 out of 10 rating.

A lot going on

Warning: Spoilers
The show continues its history of insanity and weird relationships.

Although I found Ra's's change of mind convoluted and forced, Gotham is still having more fun with the League of Assassins than Arrow ever did. You got a zombified Ra's's, a full on fight with Barbara, and an upcoming League Civil War.

Also liked the bank robbery storyline. They subvert expectations by having "Ed" communicate to the Riddler and how he managed to get the upper hand for once in his relationship with Leslie.

The Mummy: Gotham Edition
highmarksreviews20 April 2018
Was there ever any doubt of Alexander Siddig's Ra's Al Ghul returning? Not really. "To Our Deaths and Beyond" streamlined its assets into two, focused arc's this week, featuring The Riddler's (Cory Michael Smith) and Lee's (Morena Baccarin) endless loyalty loop, along with the League of Shadow's element that has been looming over the season thus far. It was a joy to see Siddig return even when most of the episode had him in mummy form, cracking a well-timed joke and slaughtering assassin's. Erin Richards also gave a fantastic performance as Barbara Kean, who still has much to do when it comes down to settling scores.

A nice breather
discordnrhyme12 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a nice break from the full-speed freight train of Jerome/Jeremiah/Joker's storyline.

A break, yes. Boring? Not in the slightest! I enjoy every opportunity to watch Penguin & Riddler... especially together. Riddler has always been my favorite villain and though I'm not overly fond of the love story with the Doc.

It works though. I mean, who wouldn't fall in love with Moreno Baccarin? She is, far and away, the most beautiful woman I've ever seen... beautiful, seductive and knows how to portray a powerful yet seductive woman with grace!

Which brings me to the other story... I LOVE the Ra's al-Guhl story. The League, his insistence that Bruce is his inevitable heir!

The Barbara Kean side, however, made me want to scream. I've never liked the direction they've taken Barbara on this show. It's hard to imagine how she'll ever become Jim's wife and the mother of Batgirl/Oracle. But this storyline took it all too far. I'm all for girl power. I love to see women in strong roles. DC has its fair share, too (Birds of Prey, Catwoman, Talia al-Guhl, Supergirl, the list goes on...). But Barbara as the demon's head? Killing all the men because they say a woman can't lead the League? It hit the girl power way too hard (much like the CWs Supergirl which is dripping in so much girl power it makes me want to shoot the TV!). This storyline drove me so nuts. I'm so glad it's over (sort of) and Ra's is back. Not looking forward to the girl League vs. Ra's League. DC has much better League stories at their disposal... they didn't have to make this crap up. 😡

A Complete Joke
mrmystery9929 July 2019
What is the point of having characters who survive no matter what? Even when they've already been killed several times. More so than the other, this episode is completely absent of any tension at all and you don't doubt for a second that all the characters will be perfectly fine despite the terrible situation they're in. This is entirely what the show has become at this point. Some characters are given decent scenes (riddler) while most are awfully written. I genuinely hate Barbara and Tabitha's characters and have been hoping they'd be cut ages ago but it's become a running joke now that they're both somehow still alive. When your characters escape impossible situations every episode it become hard to care and no one seems to die at all in this show, even when they do ffs. The writers for this show must be some pretty stupidest and uninspired people who can't be asked to write a better script that actually makes sense and doesn't have you cringing ever 2 minutes. Such a shame when you consider what could have been.

So dumb
durananthony21 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It was so overly preachy, what is the point? Tabitha and Barbara have so much plot armor and somehow Barbara managed to defeat Ra's in hand to hand combat, the demons head does predict the future however that somehow makes reaction time increase? And then after losing the final battle against Ra's the female members of the league of shadows came back, which makes no sense, if they are loyal to just the leaders why would they come back? They say because you fought but that seems like a half ass excuse. You make a episode with the two most unlikable characters and you don't manage to make them likable you just make them seem dumb and have plot help.

There's a racist writing the script
iGlad9 August 2019
Can someone tell why the majority of gruesome deaths in this season are all happening to black people? I think if you take a quick note you will see a large discrepancy. I find it rather unsettling.

Confused
reecefp22 April 2018
A fully loaded 2018 Ford Mustang and the cops have flip phones. Also with shameless advertising. Is this supposed to turn into a crossover with Legends of Tomorrow?
