Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies are so incredibly easy to make and they are delicious! Four ingredients and 13 minutes is all you need to create decadent and moist cookies that everyone will absolutely love!

Pre-made cake mix recipes have come a long way since they were first introduced to American homemakers in the 1920’s. Just add eggs and oil and a delicious homemade treat could be ready in the hour! We love cake mix cookies around here, from red velvet cookies to classic cake mix cookies. They are so easy!

Easy Cake Mix Cookie Recipe

Nowadays, cake mixes come in dozens of really fun flavors and colors, and along with ready-made frosting! While there is nothing quite like the Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie, making cake batter cookies is so crazy easy!

Cake Box Cookies are a fun recipe to get kids cooking in the kitchen because the only ingredients for cake mix cookies are: cake mix, eggs and oil (you can also add your favorites like nuts, chocolate chips or sprinkles). This chewy chocolate chip cookies recipe calls for an added cup of chocolate chips for a really fancy treat! Once these cake mix chocolate chip cookies are cooled, enjoy them any way you want to with frosting, sprinkles or a scoop of ice cream!

Instead of a traditional birthday cake, try making funfetti cookies! Less mess and easier to handle, especially for the littlest party goers!

How To Make Cookies from Cake Mix

Cake cookies are super easy to put together when you have all the supplies ready to go!

  1. Preheat the oven.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix.
  3. Drop onto a parchment lined pan and bake.

Literally as easy as 1,2,3!  For a holiday flair, try adding chopped red or green maraschino cherries. Walnuts, pecans or flaked coconut will definitely make the flavor profile pop for these chocolate cake mix cookies!

Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies on a grateBe sure to use parchment paper to ensure the cookies won’t stick to the pan (it also helps keep the cookies from browning too much on the bottom).

Cake Mix cookies are tender and moist but I don’t find they keep on the counter very long. Store them in an airtight container (not a cookie jar) for up to 2 days or freeze them for a few  months.

    1. Hi Debbie, we have only made the recipe as written but I think that should work. Let us know if you decide to try it!

  1. Yes, a German chocolate cake mix will work just fine. I’ve only tried this with the size as written but I do think it would work okay. Let us know how it goes!

  2. Hi Holly , Eager to make this but do you think a German chocolate cake mix will be fine ? Thinking on adding white chocolate chips . Thanks Holly !5 stars

    1. Yes, a German chocolate cake mix will work just fine. White chocolate chips are a great addition, let us know how it goes!

  3. Wow! Made with chocolate cake mix & used peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips. So yummy & easy. Unfortunately, only had olive oil, no vegetable oil. There’s a tiny hint of olive oil flavor, probably only because I know its in there, but even so, still amazing. Very easy and quick and I like that the recipe makes ~24 cookies, so I don’t end up eating 3 dozen cookies, like when I make them from scratch!! Will definitely make again!5 stars

  4. This recipe calls for 18.25 oz cake mix. Who makes that size anymore? They are all 15 oz!

  5. I tried these because it said easy, well they were very easy and most of all very delicious!! My family loved them. I will be making them again and again.5 stars

  6. Made these a couple of times now and they are very soft, not at all chewy unless I’m doing something wrong. Kids go nuts for them though which is a good thing.

  7. Made these today and they were very sticky to mix. I think maybe I should not have used my electric mixer. They did turn out good and are fairly large. I used walnuts along with the chocolate chips. They are good and chewy. Next time I make them I will do only hand mixing.

  8. Just made these! So easy and so good! I put some peanut butter chips and walnuts on them. This is a keeper for sure! They won’t last long!!

    1. While I have only made this as written Joyce, those substitutions should be just fine.
