The Kempter Family: A story written in notes

DEL NORTE — Music is a way of life for the Kempters. The talented family gave a concert at Gateway Church in Del Norte Wednesday night. The Kempters are a multi-talented family, bringing their unique brand of Americana Worship music from Slapout, Ala.

In 2008, they started playing music, and by the end of 2009 were performing full time. The band consists of siblings - Sara, Nathan, Danielle, JoAnna, Chris and Charli. Each specializes in an instrument of their choosing - the cello, bass, keys, mandolin, fiddle, and drums - respectively. The music they play is unique, and they cover a wide range of genres, performing a variety of music ranging from hymns and bluegrass to contemporary, country and a little classical. They share their music in churches across the country.

Colorado is a special place for the Kempters. The families’ story began when parents, Chaz and Teresa met in Denver. The couple later married and moved to Alabama, where they raised their six children. The family made many memories of traveling together, sharing their melodies and their faith in Jesus Christ.

On March 10, 2017, Teresa passed away following a battle with cancer. Even amid heartbreak, the rest of the family continued to press on. Two years to the day of Teresa’s passing, Chaz died unexpectedly of a heart attack. To honor the memory of their parents, the Kempter children are carrying on the musical tradition. Nathan’s wife of four months, Trisha has also joined the team as a sound engineer. They acknowledge the fact that their faith is the foundation that allows them to keep moving forward.

The Kempters concluded their time in the San Luis Valley with a concert at Calvary Bible Chapel in Alamosa. From Alamosa, they will make other stops in Colorado, including Westcliffe and Pueblo. The family has no plans of slowing down their musical ventures and stated, “We pray that the smiles on the outside will be a testimony of the joy on the inside. It is truly our joy to share the faith and hope we all have in Christ."
