Senior: SAS has both been the best and hardest decision i’ve made in my life. Yes, this school is challenging, with AP and dual enrollment classes. But SAS also gives you an experience you can’t find at ANY other public school, take it from me. When you come out 2 years ahead and have a more well-built resume for work and potential colleges, the hard work is well worth it. Junior: Hello I am Matthew Gomez of School for Advanced Studies North in Miami Dade College North. Junior. The best part of my experience has been the academics. If you go to SAS, they will give you Dual Enrollment classes during school, which is much better than most schools that are after school. Also, SAS mandates AP's, which strengthens the study habits of scholars who go there. I say "scholars" as students who go to SAS are referred as "scholars" by the administration, showing high respect for students. Along with high honor, they are able to have college time in the middle of their school time, where they eat and study in the MDC buildings. The worst parts of my experience probably has been the load. I love this school because it gives you much work, but that work can overwhelm if not handled correctly. Sophomore: Overall, Iprep is a good school even with a small environment. There is a shortage in high school teachers resulting in teachers taking up multiple subjects, and the problem of not having the typical high school activities and sports. Even without those certain things, I personally have found the school to be beneficial in my part since small classrooms, which helps with the ability to connect with teachers more closely and truly getting to know their students. Senior: Coral Reef excels in several different areas. From academic excellence and a variety of specialized magnets, to a diverse student body and incredible school spirit. Being a Cuda in the Visual and Performing Arts academy and also taking multiple college level classes with the AP program, I have had the best of both words. I was able to satisfy my love for the arts with the help of my brilliant teachers and thrive in my studies because of the supportive administrative team. I was also able to partake in sports, my sport of choice being Volleyball, and balance my education and extracurriculars with ease. Parent: The best part about MAST is the emphasis on high-level work and the availability of dual enrollment classes at FIU, starting in 9th grade. It's a small school - the 2024 graduating class is 93 student. This provides the opportunity to get to know your teachers and really stand out! Students are required to take two science classes and one math class every year. The down sides: Course selection can be limited because it's such a small school. Almost all electives are taken online on Florida Virtual School, during school hours, including PE, foreign language, art requirements, etc, and the school limits what online classes the student can take, even in they're available on FLVS. The school administration has had some turnover this year, and there is no functional guidance counselor this year. Senior: My experience at MAST Academy began in October of 2021 when I entered as a sophmore in highschool. Almost immediately, I noticed a difference in atmosphere, pace, and students as I walked through the halls. The classes were very competitive, which reflected on the students, and everyone was working at a high level in academics. Luckily, it didn't take me long before I merged in with this crowd; I found a friend group, compassionate teachers, and guidance throughout my remaining years. Sophomore: As a current sophomore at DASH who’s transitioning into their Junior year in these next few months, I can say I am grateful for DASH. Teachers really do try to help you here for the most part if you’re struggling, though they also make you understand that you are responsible for yourself. DASH gives us responsibilities that no other high school does in terms of art & design. I can confidently say that the school prepares us for art & design careers and opens so many doors for it; even beyond those careers. The educational experience at the moment is rough as we are going through a transitional period, many teachers have left and with that, there are new ones to fill in their place. The new teachers they get are great, and very kind. So even if the period of transition feels a bit daunting at this moment, what comes after is absolutely worth the wait! Senior: At first I didn’t enjoy coming to the school because it was one gender and I thought I would miss out on the true highschool experience. However coming to this school was the best thing that could have happened to me. Being a small school you are able to truly learn and create friendships for a long term. The worst part of my experience doesn’t have to do with school in itself but I went through a very difficult time in tenth grade and I fear if I wasn’t at this school I wouldn’t have been able to over come it as strongly as I did. Freshman: Jose-Marti Mast Academy is one of the best schools that provides all their students a great balance between academics and social life, which allows their students to thrive. The school provides great opportunities for college, including college-visits, summer programs, and great mentors. It prepares you for college classes through required research classes, which are a great help for students both excelling and struggling with writing. However, numerous classes are more student-driven because the students have to often engage in self-study or self-teaching because many teachers do not teach to the standard that the classes require. Many teachers also have a bad temperament, which affects students. For example, one teacher did not allow a student to go the restroom, even when the female student loudly declared to the class that it was a female emergency. Senior: True North Classical Academy is exceeds all other schools in the area academically, giving students like me so many opportunities to learn, as well as setting us up for college. with such a small school (this years senior class not even being 60 students), students are able to get as much attention as they need from teacher, faculty, and college advisors. The school also hires teachers with impressive qualities such as perfect scores on SAT and Ivy League college graduates. The school provides you with tons of time and advise when its time to apply to college, leaving students with no prior knowledge of what they need for college feeling like they are ready for the next part of their lives.
