      Season 4 – New Amsterdam

      2021 Drama List
Reviews 38% Audience Score Fewer than 50 Ratings Dr. Max Goodwin is brilliant, charming -- and the new medical director at America's oldest public hospital. While he's set on tearing down the bureaucracy to provide exceptional care, the doctors and staff are not so sure. They've heard this before, and no one else has delivered on those promises. Not taking no for an answer, Max disrupts the status quo and proves he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital -- the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under one roof -- and return it to the glory that put it on the map. Inspired by Bellevue in New York City. Read More Read Less Watch on Peacock Stream Now

Sarah-Elizabeth Absolutely brilliant. Beautiful acting, writing, all of the above. This show is talking about issues no other show has, in such a mindful and powerful way. Ignore the reviews, jump in, the water is warm! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Jayson M After binge watching 3 seasons I was amazed with the show and its innovations to help and bring about change. The fourth season brought it all burning to the ground and i dont hear good things about the fifth. every character youve grown to love you start to hate. max leaving the hospital and acting like he cares so much but still leaves, iggy emotionally cheating on his husband them blaming him, floyd being a snitch. truthfully went from one of my favorite shows to now my least liked show. great characters turned into horrible people Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review FM Despite lack of some coherence (e.g.Luna's care), I loved and binge watched the 4 series and was so thrilled when Max proposed to Helen. They belong together. Season 4's last episode was a total letdown, an unnecessary twist that throws the whole show from a heart warming somewhat realistic 4 or 5 star show into an over-the-top melodrama with a contrived heartbreaking ending just to create suspense for a 5th season. The liberal mention of equity and racism in the show came to null with Helen's no-show at the end, without good rhyme or reason. It depicted a woman of color not being able to keep her promises, despite her obvious deep love and devotion to Max. She was blackballed in Season 5 out of spite. All her goodness was wiped out. Season 5 defied logic and turned this a cursed mixed race relationship that had to end with Max choosing another white woman. Lauren and her brown lover broke up as well. None of the mixed race couples can be together, while the sycophant unfaithful forever-frown-faced Frome get to exchange vows with his partner. The show made it clear blacks belong with blacks, white belongs with white, damned mixed-race relationships. However strong, the directors found ways to render it 'inappropriate', 'unhealthy'. The directors did not have to create an unnecessary cliff hanger in season 4, Max and Helen should be married. The show ended up with a meaningless blah season 5 that's not worth watching and with nothing to offer. Max's daughter becoming the medical director is another manifestation of the unconscious or conscious bias and racism, a very very young blond woman becoming a medical director. It is not touching, it is not warm, it's not inspirational; it's a perpetuation of liberal racism. The feel good uplifting show turned into a nightmare. Whoever came up with the cancelled wedding idea is too greedy, could not let something wonderful and good stay beautiful and uplifting. I loved and respected all the actors/actresses, they are all excellent. The season 4 last episode 22 script tanked the show because of someone's greediness for more melodrama. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Margo M This once optimistic and hopeful show about finding creative alternatives to the bleak reality of our healthcare system changed into becoming the bleak selfish mess it was trying to 'fix'. The heroes gave up. Brilliant doctors became fools. And that hospital proved it has no business being open at all. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review eric p Love it, an absolute must see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/22 Full Review Audience Member This is feel good network tv. It's not complicated. Sometimes you watch a nice uplifting show and it ends with a serious finale to make you worry and want to come back to make sure everyone is alright (and they will be!). Sometimes you watch a serious show because it's about building up to satisfying character growth and an intense but uplifting finale, maybe with a twist to start something new for next season. But New Amsterdam just made an entire season that was discouraging and depressing from start to finish. There was never even a consistent thread connecting all of the chaos. No one grew and seem to be in actively worse places than they were at the beginning, and if there was any fun to be had it was quickly met with disaster. I don't think anyone felt good on that nauseating and disorienting rollercoaster. What was the point? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
