About The Stooges
During the psychedelic haze of the late '60s, the grimy, noisy, and relentlessly bleak rock & roll of the Stooges was conspicuously out of time. Like the Velvet Underground, the Stooges revealed the underside of sex, drugs, and rock & roll. Taking their cue from the over-amplified pounding of British blues and the primal raunch of American garage rock, the band were raw, immediate, and vulgar. In the end, the Stooges were too volatile to last, and after a brawl with a Detroit biker gang in 1974, they disbanded, while Iggy went on to a long, fruitful solo career. In 2000, the band reunited for several tours, and released two additional studio albums before breaking up for good in 2016.
