Ted Bluechel Jr., drummer, guitarist and singer with the Association, was born in San Pedro, California, on December 2, 1942. Ted played drums and sang with the Association until 1983, when the band brought in drummer Brian Puckett (Gary Puckett's brother), to enable Ted to play guitar and do more singing with the group. Ted had graduated with an A average from North Torrance High School in 1960, and his career goal was to become a zoology teacher. He had completed his third year of college toward that goal when he abruptly changed direction in response to a new calling: music. "I got hooked into playing with some friends of mine in a quartet called the Cherry Hill Singers," he told us. "That's when the hook got set." Read about Ted and the Association in our book "Where Have All the Pop Stars Gone? -- Volume 1."
