Denton, Maryland

Poised on a hill overlooking the Choptank River, Denton has a picturesque Courthouse Green surrounded by colonial revival style homes and handsome structures that reflect the “Canning Boom” (1895-1919). Since the town’s founding in 1781, the Green has been the site of elegant balls, circuses, baseball games, military parades, and jailbreaks. Errant fireworks celebrating the end of the Civil War nearly destroyed the downtown on July 4, 1865. Today, Caroline Summerfest is held on the streets surrounding the courthouse every year in August. Denton is home to the Museum of Rural Life, the Chesapeake Culinary Center, the Foundry, the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore and numerous shops and restaurants.
