Atlantic High School Reviews
Rating 3.68 out of 5 836 reviews
As someone who has spent two years at Atlantic Community High School, I would say the experience has definitely been quite a ride. First off, there were many good parts about my high school, like the people that I encountered. I have made many friends, and I feel much more accepted here than I did in my middle school. This is largely because Atlantic High School is much more diverse than my predominantly white middle school. Also, academic programs such as the AICE and IB program being available at my school are magnets to students like me who want to achieve. However, there are also several issues about Atlantic Community High School such as the food. Like many high schools, the food is not the greatest and many students end up skipping lunch which leads to them not paying attention in class due to their hunger. Furthermore, my school is not very safe considering that there are constant gas leaks and fights, but we are in a safe area in Delray.
I’m not apart if the regular classes since I’m in the IB Program, but my favorite experiences is being with the other students, understanding and liking the lectures, and doing well academically. My least favorite parts are the piles of work and not understanding it first try, but then again, finally understanding a subject after getting it explained by a teacher, classmate, or the internet is very rewarding. The things I want to see change is the food waste since some, not too many, lunch servers make students take a fruit and juice but the students won’t or don’t actually eat it, causing there to be good food going to waste. I would like there to be a place, table, where unopened, clean, unwanted food can be returned back to the cafeteria to be served to someone who actually wants it. Or maybe the unwanted food can be composted. We do have a recycling club.
Some of the school administrators are related to the principal, it is completely unfair. The school offers little to no attention to the academic environment, nor are clubs a big thing. Student involvement lacks tremendously. Also, since the start of the new principal we have lost 50+ teachers/admins for relatively the same reason due to the new administrators/ staff. There are very few good teachers left in this school.
