Featuring Cult axeman Billy Duffy and latter-day bassist Billy Morrison (here popping up as the singer as opposed to mere musician), Almighty frontman Ricky Warwick (the Almighty were Britrock also rans from the early nineties in case you were thinking ‘who?’) and helped percussively and production-wise by gunners/Velvet Revolver skinsman Mat Sorum, Circus Diablo are here, and they’re ready to party- party like it’s 1989.
This is an hilarious record, but if you can suspend your disbelief for forty minutes and just go with the retroactive flow, there’s a fine old time to be had here. Buck Cherry aside, few bands have pulled off an eighties rock record in the twenty first century with as much raw aplomb as this mob, and in the likes of Loaded and Red Sun Rising they’ve come up with a couple of out and out classics of their kind. Unfortunately the Cult are about to start touring in support of their new opus Born Into This, which means this record will now sink without trace, which is a shame. It deserves a better fate.
