Nestled in the stunning South Downs in West Sussex, Windlesham House School combines tradition and history which spans over a century with a progressive and innovative approach (a long held policy of no school uniform - within reason of course! - helps children feel relaxed in their home away from home. 

This highly regarded prep school offers flexible boarding options for children in Years 3-8, provides exciting opportunities for girls and boys aged 4-13 and has consistently upheld a tradition of academic rigor, holistic development and a nurturing environment conducive to growth.

Curriculum

At Windlesham House, the curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to inspire intellectual curiosity while nurturing individual talents and is based on the National Curriculum and the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum with some additions and variations. Embracing a blend of traditional values and innovative teaching methods, the school ensures a comprehensive educational experience that goes beyond mere academics. From a strong foundation in core subjects to a diverse range of extracurricular activities, the curriculum fosters critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth.

Academic rigour and challenge are important and the School strives for all pupils to achieve their potential within a supportive environment where learning is creative, engaging and accessible. A unique ACE Habits for Learning – Active learner, Critical thinker and Explorer are embedded in all aspects of teaching and learning allowing children to develop essential skills and become independent learners.

The Windlesham House Diploma & Futures Programme is a bespoke two-year course followed by all pupils in Years 7 & 8. It is unique to Windlesham House and is designed to equip pupils with the skills and attributes required to flourish at senior school and beyond. 

Sport and the arts

Recognising the importance of a balanced lifestyle, Windlesham House places great emphasis on sports and the arts. With state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated instructors, students have the opportunity to explore a myriad of sporting disciplines and artistic pursuits. Whether it's honing athletic skills on the playing fields or expressing creativity in the performing arts, every child is encouraged to discover their passions and excel in their chosen endeavors.

The School's view is that sports are all about games – and games should be fun!  As such, there are opportunities for all pupils to play at their best and most appropriate level, whether at inter-house, inter-school, county or at national level. Core sports are football, girls football, rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, girls cricket, rounders, athletics, swimming and tennis. On top of these sports, the School offers badminton, basketball, dance and table tennis. Sports tours are a regular feature of the games programme, giving pupils the chance to experience competition and camaraderie. Exceptional sports facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, nine hole golf course, grass and hard courts and acres of pitches. 

Windlesham’s art room is open for lessons, activity sessions and also free time study. There is a well stocked art library and a Studio where pottery, graphic design, silkscreen /lino printing, batik, silk painting, glass fusing and mosaic are taught. Between the two art rooms is a computer suite with access to resources for research and design. iPads are also available for pupils to use to develop their art projects. 

The Design, Technology and Art department plays a major role in the School's activity programme, allowing each child to develop their creativity by giving them experience in a wide range of materials and techniques – from traditional skills to modern technological processes.

Windlesham House boasts a rich legacy of excellence in music and drama, evident through the notable achievements of some impressive alumni including Mumford & Sons, Tom Hiddleston, Sir Michael Hordern, Guy Ritchie! Every child here has the opportunity to showcase their talents both on stage and behind the scenes. Recent highlights include  'Windlesham’s Got Talent', outdoor Shakespeare productions by Year 7, and a Dancetastic show. 

Beyond the classroom

Beyond academic and extracurricular pursuits, Windlesham House offers a host of opportunities for personal development and community engagement. Through service projects, leadership initiatives and cultural exchanges, students learn the value of compassion, empathy, and global citizenship. Windlesham's forest school programme set in its beautiful woodland offers the chance for exploring, discovering, imagining and connecting with nature - while the resident chickens, cats, dogs and even a bearded dragon are all much loved and well cared for by the School community and a market garden allows children to grow and cultivate all kinds of vegetables.   

Windlesham House offers over 250 co-curricular activities from NFL Flag football to street dance and options in the arts, sports or academia. An outdoor classroom, used for survival lessons, building shelters and campfire cooking even has a pizza oven!

2022 saw Windlesham's best ever Common Entrance results and record number of scholarships to senior schools.

In 2023, Windlesham pupils won two of the fourteen highly prized Kings’ Scholarships at Eton.

Campus and facilities

Boarding 

Windlesham House School offers a home away from home experience characterised by warmth, security, and a sense of belonging for children in years 3-8, with flexible boarding options available. 

Boys and girls are accommodated in dormitories in separate areas of the school and dorms vary in size, with most of the boys’ side having eight to ten children in each room and the girls’ side six to eight.

In each wing there is a ‘comfy room’ where the children are able to relax, play games, and on TV night, watch a film before bedtime.

Admission and fees

Windlesham House is a  ‘gently selective’ school with an admissions process focuses on the needs of each child and their family.

The School request their latest school report and CAT4 scores (if applicable) to give us an indication of academic levels and insight into how they would fit at Windlesham House both in an educational and pastoral sense. Places are offered on the basis of a 'taster' visit, an informal assessment, a school report and CAT4 scores (if available). If an offer is made a completed contract and deposit will be required to confirm a place.

While the fees reflect the premium quality of education and facilities provided, the school offers scholarships and financial aid to deserving students, thereby ensuring that talented individuals from all backgrounds have access to its world-class education.
