Basner oversees a wide range of entertainment, from theatrical films and theater productions to genre fare and international sales. In 2023, FilmNation celebrated its 15th anniversary and released Nicole Holofcener’s critically acclaimed “You Hurt My Feelings” for A24, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tobias Menzies. At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, FilmNation presented “Firebrand,” toplined by Alicia Vikander and Jude Law, plus “Black Flies” with Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan. On Broadway, Jodie Comer earned a Tony award for leading actress in a play in FilmNation’s “Prima Facie,” which fully recouped its $4.1 million capitalization. Basner also oversaw the continued growth of FilmNation’s commercial film label Infrared, which started sales on its first film “Cooler,” produced with Dave Bautista’s Dogbone Entertainment. FilmNation had a strong year for international sales titles as well, which included an eight-figure deal for “Flora and Son” being set up at Apple Original Films and Andrew Niccol’s “Lords of War,” a sequel to 2005’s “Lord of War,” with Nicolas Cage set to return.
