“Pain” is a song that digs deep within Simon’s own soul and some of the trauma he’s gone through in his life and how its affected him. He describes feeling like he’s drowning in an ocean of emotions, knowing someone doesn’t care as he’s up in Simon’s body, ignoring the pain in Simon’s heart and how Simon feels like a weak fool for even feeling the way he does.

Everything starts getting to Simon and he feels lost and he is unable to keep track of what’s real and what’s fake anymore due to the feelings going on in his heart and mind. The pain gets to the point where Simon debates suicide, but he changes his mind as he realizes he doesn’t want to truly die. He only wants to escape the pain, to go away from it all, and for someone to take away the pain, never leave him and just truly love him.
