  Spoilers ahead.

  Both released in 1971, Sergio Leone's Duck, You Sucker and Duccio Tessari's Don’t Turn the Other Cheek (AKA Long Live Your Death) offer two responses to the revolutionary idealism displayed in older Zapata westerns. In the former, that idealism is dismissed as hopeless and doomed, with the film a grim acknowledgement of the profound staying power of abusive systems. In the latter, meanwhile, it's made a mockery of, revealed to be entirely insincere and flippantly selfish.   Spontane Huldigungsfesttage an den Italowestern!

  VIVA LA MUERTE...TUA! - Zwei wilde Companeros!

  
  "Ich werde soviele Soldaten töten, wie meine Schwester Haare auf dem Kopf hat!"

  Ziemlich klaumaukiger Western, der ganz schön harsch in der Dollar-Trilogie des guten Sergio Leone wildert. Richtig Böse, oder gar grimmig kommt da keiner rüber, aber das ist wohl auch nicht das Ehrenwerte Ziel hier. Aber es gibt auch ziemlich coole Einstellungen zu bewundern und die Action ist markig. Vor allem gegen Ende darf knartzig die Bleispritze gewuppt werden.

  Was dem Ganzen Zirkus aber die Krone auf´s Haupt drapiert ist die herrliche, schnoddrige Synchro. Ein Sprüchereigen wie er wohl nur in den 70´er und Früh-80ern florierte:

  Franco Nero plays a Russian prince, Eli Wallach plays a Mexican bandit and Lynn Redgrave plays an Irish journalist, all of whom are going around in circles trying to score a ton of gold, foment a revolution, exact revenge or some combination thereof. As the mismatched nationalities might suggest, it doesn't always make perfect sense but everybody has a lot of fun. The plot is nothing you haven't seen before but Tessari elevates the distinctly Leonean material with a breezy "Fuck it, let's get weird" attitude.

  A must-see for anyone who's ever dreamed of watching a bespectacled Lynn Redgrave take out a regiment of soldiers with her bare fists.

  Der Film hat einfach nicht gezündet. Natürlich ist die Chemie zwischen Franco Nero und Eli Wallach super, aber der Film wirkt einfach zu sehr wie eine billige Version von Zwei Glorreiche Halunken. Die Action macht spaß, auch wenn hier eine simple Schrotflinte zu einer Waffe gemacht wird die 5 Leute gleichzeitig ausschalten kann. Außerdem ist die "rothaarige Frau mit dem Pfirsicharsch" wirklich nervtötend und nicht, wie wahrscheinlich beabsichtigt witzig. Die Handlung ist viel zu wirr um einen zu fesseln und die Witze zünden selten. Aber ein paar Szenen in diesem Durcheinander von Film waren echt spaß, vorallem die Szene bei der Mine, aber ja. Mehr als 2.5 Sterne sind da nicht drin.

  The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but it's a slapstick comedy and Eli Wallach accidentally becomes a Mexican revolutionary. I'm not sure if I would say that this movie was good, but it was hilarious.

  Die Revolution fällt heute flach

  Tessari hat mit den beiden RINGO-Western veritable Klassiker geschaffen. ZWEI WILDE COMPANEROS war meinerseits also, allein schon ob der Besetzung, mit recht hoher Erwartung verknüpft. Leider wurde sie nicht annähernd erfüllt.

  Ich möchte dem Film ggü. nicht zu hart sein, er zieht seine Sache ordentlich durch, ist aber letztlich klares Stückwerk aus geklauten Ideen anderer Filme (vor allem ZWEI GLORREICHE HALUNKEN, MERCENARIO und LASST UNS TÖTEN, COMPANEROS!), die routiniert aber ohne wirklich eigene Ideen abgespult werden.

  Wenn es denn mal eine eigene gute Idee gibt, dann wird sie verschenkt. Die Rolle von Horst Janson z.B. wird vielversprechend eingeführt, verschwindet aber damn fast gänzlich bis zum Finale.

  ZWEI WILDE COMPANEROS hat dem Genre Revolutionswestern nichts hinzuzufügen, ist nur das Aufwärmen von Resten, die man von verschiedenen Tellern aus der Küche eines Luxusrestaurants zusammengeklaubt hat. Kann schmecken, aber letzlich sind es halt doch nur Reste vom Vortag und nicht das ursprüngliche Festmahl.

  Django, Il Cattivo and Lynn Redgrave go after some buried gold in the middle of a Mexican revolution. Thing that saves it is the great humor and the great action scenes. Over the top, like many of this spaghetti joints are but very entertaining. Redgrave's fistfight is hilarious and a highlight.

  "Zwei wilde Companeros"

  In die Endphase der Italowestern-Ära, als sie fast nur noch in Komödienform erschienen, ist auch dieser ziemlich unbedeutende Beitrag einzuordnen. Zwar hat der Film wirkliche Genreikonen als Hauptdarsteller, aber die viel zu lange Story kommt einfach nicht in die Gänge. Die waschechte Rainer Brandt Synchro ändert daran leider auch nichts.

  Funny enough for a comedic spaghetti western, though it occasionally seems to think most of the laughs are to be found with the main characters (a Russian grifter and a Mexican bandit masquerading as a revolutionary), when the larger ensemble seems like it could make much larger contributions, both in terms of laughs and story.

  It's enthusiastic when the time comes to start shooting and blow some stuff up, at least, although often more than a little disjointed. It probably didn't help that the print was kind of faded at best and very red at worst, showing signs of having lost second at the reel changes.
