      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

In exchanging the chilling satire of the original into mindless camp, this remake has itself become Stepford-ized.

Kathleen Collins Bitch Media The fear of women's economic and social power also never went away, and the remake's attempt to distance itself from something that's neither vintage nor remote raises the question of what, exactly, we were meant to find relevant about it. Dec 17, 2020 Full Review Alissa Quart Film Comment Magazine It glides by on the notion that there is little that is still frightening about being an American woman. I wish I could say it was a premise whose time had come. Nov 19, 2013 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Comedic remake of '70s horror movie has sex humor. Rated: 2/5 Dec 29, 2010 Full Review Common Sense Media Editors Common Sense Media The subject of feminism is a juicy subject to pick apart here, and in retrospect, the audience is left with some questions. Rated: 4/5 Jan 11, 2023 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault The movie could only have worked as an overbaked parody, but director Frank Oz, despite some feinting towards an antic-gothic Tim Burton style, just doesn’t have his heart in it. Georgan G Liked every minute of this film. Lots of comedy, great cast, & ended perfectly. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Nancy W I liked it. Thought the acting was good and kind of a kooky story, which I liked. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/23 Full Review Devin B Good twist at the end! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Stephanie R This movie is cinema. Incredible. Changed my life. Oscar worthy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/23 Full Review Rrank F It's not as bad as they say… I watched this film about a month after I saw the film Don't Worry Darling, which I absolutely loved. I heard this film practically led DWD into its footsteps, so I decided to give this one a try Sure, it's imperfect, but it's a very underrated film. I did get in a few laughs, a couple of chills and also some cheap thrills as well. This Stepford Wives remake may not live up to its potential, but it's an instant cult-classic in my opinion and I definitely look forward in seeing this movie again. The cast was great too. Personally, I didn't think it was as good as DWD, but I highly recommend Stepford Wives if you loved Don't Worry Darling. My overall rating: 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review claire f The story has been changed quite a bit from the original, it's not nearly as creepy as the 1975 version. But I got a few laughs, and the cast is great. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
