Chris Wood was seen going absolutely ballistic at one Nottingham Forest teammate during the 3-1 win over Sheffield United today.
Nuno Espirito Santo watched his side admirably fight back from Ben Brereton Diaz’s opener to secure a vital three points, thanks to two fine strikes from Callum Hudson-Odoi and a thumping effort by Ryan Yates.
However, tensions started to boil over just before the interval – as Chris Wood let rip at one of his Nottingham Forest teammates…
Why Chris Wood was furious during Sheffield United 1-3 Nottingham Forest
Well, the New Zealand international – who Chris Wilder called “quality” in his press conference on Friday – has presumably calmed down now after his side secured a hugely significant win.
However – in the 49th minute – Wood was livid.
The Nottingham Forest No.11 was angered by Morgan Gibbs-White’s decision to shoot from miles out just before half-time, when he had plenty of options either and ahead side of him.
In fact, the clash was even spotted by the commentary team on Optus Sport.
Fortunately, a stunner from Yates and another goal from Hudson-Odoi in the second half meant any tension between Wood and Gibbs-White was quickly forgotten.
Good to see
While fans never want to see their own players coming to blows, Wood was correct to call Gibbs-White out, and his lecture was followed by a far more cohesive attacking display in the second half.
The game was there for the taking at 1-1 today, and if the 32-year-old hadn’t lashed out a bit, this wastefulness might have carried on after the interval and seen Nottingham Forest squander vital points.
There is nothing wrong with a hopeful shot from distance when leading by a comfortable margin, but it was silly of Gibbs-White to shoot from roughly 35 yards out at 1-1.
Nevertheless, Wood’s moan appeared to have the desired impact – the £45m man was far less selfish in the second half, and played a key role as Nottingham Forest secured the points which could seal safety.
