Tim Goodman Hollywood Reporter Beyond the terrible title that hinders the series, it's impossible to look at this effort and not wish it was a much rougher, unvarnished look at Carson and what it must have been like working on The Tonight Show in the early 1970s Nov 17, 2017 Full Review Steve Greene indieWire TV is an increasingly strange business, but There's...Johnny! argues that there's still a bit of magic in the chaos. Rated: B+ Nov 17, 2017 Full Review Lea Palmieri Decider Using the real Carson clips is a fun innovation, and keeping it so heart-warming is a nice callback to times when that's what TV shows were, instead of being dark and dreary - even, and maybe especially, for the comedies of today. Dec 20, 2017 Full Review David Wharton The Daily Dot It's unclear if There's...Johnny! will continue in any form, but as it stands now, it's an odd, endearing gem, and with only seven half-hour episodes, a pleasant way to kill an afternoon. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2017 Full Review David Bianculli TV Worth Watching Some of the more dramatic bits in this first season play a bit clunkily, but the humor is solid - and [Jane] Levy, as Joy, isn't a star in the making. She's a star, ready-made. Nov 16, 2017 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette More dramedy than laugh out loud comedy, There's Johnny also benefits from some terrific supporting players, including Tony Danza as longtime Tonight Show executive producer Fred de Cordova. Audience Member Good series with intresting CARICATURES set in a captavatin premis. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It is lighthearted fun mixed with some dramatic behind the scenes action with powerful performances by Jane Levy and Tony Danza. If you want gritty watch “I’m dying up here” on HBO but this is the best of both worlds and nostalgia fans will love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a gem of a show that brings you back to the glory days of Johnny Carson while balancing the comedy of its characters but at the same time tackling real issues of the times it portrays. With Tony Danza being his awesome self and Jane Levy proving once again that her talents have been severely underutilized by Hollywood this Hulu original is definitely a treat.
