I have had a pretty good experience at West Aurora High School. I’m going to start my senior year. The food isn’t always the best but, I think they are working on changing that. Some of the teachers here are very dedicated to the students education and learning more about their lives outside of the school. West Aurora also does a good job at having club for everyone. like book club, art club, game club and much more. We also have very talented coaches that work at west from our basketball team all the way to the badminton team. West Aurora also have different resources. Like when you need help for college or getting help with classes.
I felt that West Aurora High School prepared me well for college, the only thing that was bad was that safety was a concern. Overall a good school.
I feel like all things considered, West isn't a horrible school. I think with it being such a big school, there are inevitably going to be a lot of issues. However, I will say that there are tons of academic opportunities and the fine arts program, especially the band program, is very well funded and lead. I've had a relatively positive experience with most of my teachers and peers, with a few issues here and there but for the most part it's really not that bad.
It's a nice and diverse community, there's always something for students to do after school and if needed help with any subject there is an AAC in the library for help and there is always colleges and universities coming to the school in the CCRC.
This schools Fine Arts program is amazing and I’m so glad to have been a part of it. The worst parts would probably be things caused by students but it was nothing that our school did wrong.
It was an interesting experience to say the least. On one hand, they have a lot of interesting classes that you could take and it helps that there is something for everyone. On the other hand, the school’s safety is lacking to say the least. People can easily sneak things in, and fights happen more than they should. Also, the school food is terrible, after 4 years, I can’t actually eat the food, the only upside is that the first lunch is free, but you have to pay for seconds, not saying that it is even worth. All in all, it did what it needed to do for my future, but a lot more things can be improved.
The school is home to meteorologist Tom Skilling. Plenty of work coop programs like DECA, teachers are well paid compared to the east side of Aurora (therefore they seem to have more passion). The school is crowded with nearly 4,000 students (more than the 2700 in my day).
My overall experience at West Aurora High School has been very beneficial to me. My first two years of high school, I went to Rosary High School, which is an all-girls Catholic high school. I decided to go to this school after middle school because COIVD was still taking place and I didn't want to have to do online school. At Rosary, I was able to attend school 4–5 days a week, which I believe really benefited me. However, I missed a lot of my old friends from middle school that had gone to West. I also felt like Rosary did not have enough academic opportunities for me. When I transferred to West my junior year of high school, I felt like I was learning a lot more and like I had a lot more resources to take advantage of. I no longer felt rushed all the time, and I was able to learn topics in a better time period. Being at West the past two years, I have learned that a lot of the students there do not appreciate the opportunities that West offers us.
I transferred to this school, and I was going to graduate in 3 months. In those three months, I was able to build relationships with certain students and teachers. The teachers at West Aurora High School were pretty helpful, and funny, especially my Civics teacher. In math, the final assignment, creating our own business and figuring out our costs, values, and profit, was related to the math that I will be learning in my degree, so it will allow me to understand the math a bit easier. There were a couple of fights here and there, but that didn't stop the learning "show."
I have loved my experience at West Aurora High School. This school is a truly hidden gem, and very unexpected outwardly. A lot of people are scared by the stories from this school, but this school has amazing extracurriculars, sports, music programs, and college readiness. If the student cares, they could get everything they need out of an amazing high school and more. This school has amazing college readiness programs, like Dual Credit, Advanced Placement, and honors classes taught by excelling teachers.
The best part about west Aurora high school is their involvement with the arts department. They specialize in their music and arts and theater programs and I am involved with all. I believe we have the best of that subject however everywhere else is not as involved and supported. Teachers often give a rough time to those who need it and those teachers whom retire soon often hurt more than teach.
West Aurora is great at getting everyone involved and it is great going to a large school with so much diversity. There are so many programs for everyone to become involved in. We have amazing academics and it is good to know that I will always have help whenever I need it. Some negative things at West Aurora is the amount of physical fights I have seen in the past. Luckily I am fortunate to feel very safe at my school. West Aurora has recently done a great job at keeping fights and dangerous situations from happening.
I enjoyed going here and I’m going to be sad to leave. All the staff and teachers are very passionate about their respective subjects and truly make learning an enjoyable experience and made it my best experience at West. I think my worst experience would be the fights and the bathrooms. We have a lot of fights (luckily they have been reduced this school year) and the bathrooms are hazy due to many students vaping and smoking (also has been reduced this year but still a problem in some of the worse bathrooms). Overall it’s been pretty good though.
Overall a really great school. Lots of great clubs and things to get involved with. An extremely diverse population. School spirit is really high especially during sport events like football and basketball games. Fantastic fine arts programs.
Very good diversity among students. There are more than enough clubs and sports that are made available for each student. There is a club for every student and their interests. If students wish to create their own club, they are able to do so very easily. I have had a decent experience at this school. I believe they provide a great range of different classes for the different interests of students. They have a good variety of classes in the areas of Science, Technology, and Math. They also have a good range of classes for those who want to go into the trades such as welding or auto mechanics. They have a great JROTC that is inclusive of all students and provides good strategies that help prepare those who want to go into the military. The JROCT is excellent in drill as well. West also has a great fine arts program that I am a part of. I am also a part of various sports which are also very inclusive and very welcoming. A lot of time and dedication goes into sports and the arts as well.
I have had a good overall experience, classes have been challenging and the teachers have been very accommodating.
I think west is a good school with a diverse community and lots of amazing opportunities. They offer a wide array of technical courses and health courses as well as numerous clubs and extracurricular activities. 4/5, scrumptious place.
