How to move a clip frame by frame

PostThu May 30, 2019 10:44 am

Hello everyone,

I'm struggling with this, is there any way to move the selected clip in the edit page of just one frame?

I used to do this all the time in premiere pro with the shortcut "command and the right or left arrow", but I can't find how to do it in DaVinci 16 or the command name in the keyboard preferences.

Can you please help me?

Thank you

Did you find anything out? I see the shortcut in DaVinci (Move selected clips one frame left/right), but the command doesn't work. The default command is the same as Premiere

The default shortcut in DaVinci is the same as Premiere (its called Move selected clips one frame left/right), but it doesn't work.

Works fine on my Mac. You might need to check your keyboard mapping to make sure it is correct and there are no conflicts.

Hmm... I looked through it again; still no luck.

Maybe you could help, Peter. Where in 'Keyboard Customization' is the shortcut and what is it called? (For reference, I am selecting clips on the timeline and I want to move them one frame forward or back).

You posted earlier that the keyboard shortcut is the same as Premiere. Go to the Keyboard customisation and click on the key you want and it's shortcut will be displayed. Default Resolve mapping for 1 frame movement is , & .

If you need more help the excellent Resolve user manual is available from the Help menu.

Yes, english keyboard.

Step One
Frame Forward - Num->
Frame Reverse - Num<-

Note: Moving the playhead forward and backward one frame is fine.
I am selecting a clip. Then I want to move it ahead on the timeline one frame. I used to do this is Premiere with CMD -> or CMD <-

I too seem to be having a problem moving along the Timeline by one frame increments: In the Menu->Trim->Nudge it is indicated that to shift by one frame right "." (fullstop) and one frame left "," (comma) Neither seem to be working.
Is it just me or is this a glitch ?

Those shortcuts move the CLIP by one frame. Moving the timeline cursor is done using the L & R arrow keys. These shortcuts vary in effect depending on the mode. i.e. Selection mode, Trim mode etc.

Indeed I just want to move the timeline playhead a frame forward/backward at a time but the arrow keys do not seem to work anymore.
They worked fine in V 15.
Anyone have any clever workarounds ?

Hi there,
it took me a long time to find it.
you can move the (selected) clip with the "," and "." button.

DaVinci Resolve > Keyboard Customization > Commands > Playback > Step One > Frame Reverse (set to left arrow key), Frame Forward (set to right arrow key)

This worked for me :D

When I looked this up I found if you select the clip and press ',' [comma, back one] and '.' [full stop, forward one]. Pressing shift with either of these takes you back 5 frames. Can't quite work out what using CTRL plus Comma does but it is a much bigger leap :-)
