Emma Portner, a celebrated Canadian professional dancer and choreographer, began dating Elliot Page in 2017 after meeting through Instagram. The pair's relationship was quickly solidified as Portner choreographed dances on Page's tour for their movie Flatliners. Their union took a big leap in January 2018 when they announced they were married. However, in January 2021, Page announced they were divorcing Portner, citing irreconcilable differences.
"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends," the two said in a statement.

In Elliot Page’s novel Pageboy, published June 6, the Umbrella Academy actor revealed that he and Kate Mara had a secret fling that years later morphed into a platonic friendship. The two met at a dinner party during the time Page was filming 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“The first person I fell for after my heart was broken was Kate Mara,” an excerpt from the book reads. “I could not stop thinking about her … I was a goner.”
At the time, Mara was dating Max Minghella, which made everything more complicated. Though he was okay with them exploring their “unabashed attraction,” Page knew he was falling for Mara, writing, “I was chasing something that could not be, letting lust overwhelm me.”
Looking back almost 9 years later, Page wrote, But what has never changed, what will never change, is the love between us. Loyal, generous, emotionally present — Kate is not just a wonderful friend, she is an honest friend."
